Why NotWhy Rwanda?
Why NotWhy Rwanda?
As my in previous post people forget what they want to forget. The NHS workers in meltdown (still), the teachers and the work they had to put in to estimate exams and totally retrain for learn online, The IT staff to keep every thing running, the database and app designers creating systems to get food to the people that were shielding....all forgotten already.Where did i say that ? Let them strike and ruin peoples plans ,its quite obvious people won't forget this.
It's the only place that would do a deal like this so easily, give us the money and we will do what you you ask.Why Not
You are missing the point. If the asylum seekers think they will be sent to Rwanda, they won't come. It's the only place that would do a deal like this so easily, give us the money and we will do what you you ask.
I was adding meat to the bone of "Why not". I get the idea it's a deterrent, but it will only work if everybody picked up got sent there on arrival. You are missing the point. If the asylum seekers think they will be sent to Rwanda, they won't come.
I was taken on a trip /junket from the brewery to visit Pirelli tyres in Carlisle a good few years ago as part of a project on World Class Manufacturing .
One of the tyre makers on the shop floor, had noticed a simpler way to change over the tyre machine . This saved let's say, half the time it normally took for a change over. As a result productivity at the plant boomed.
We were brought into presentation in which the plant manager said , "We couldn't believe that a blue collar worker came up with this idea" . To us not only did this sound condescending in the extreme , it came across as abhorrent and almost racist (even though they were both white). Imagine our suprise when the guy who'd come up with the idea came out and said in seriousness "I couldn't believe that me, a blue collar worker, came up with this idea "
It still sticks with me today , I wondered if was something to do with being born in a republic and told that we're all equal , compared to being born in the UK and told from the onset that the Royal family and their various layers of elite class are somehow better than you . Which allows this nonsense to prevail , that somehow someone from a lower level in that society is entitled to less or not as intelligent as someone from further up the ladder. You only have to look at the current royal family to quickly realise that in many, if not all cases the opposite is true. No disrespect intended to any royal fans , just a perspective from a neighbour .
THIS is EXACTLY how where I work is run! I've had two ideas dismissed as rubbish to be later implemented by a manager who "thought of them himself" and was handsomely rewarded. Its happened many times to many people across most departments. As a result the ideas from us minions have suddenly dried up resulting in some spectacular head scratching and buffoonery from the persons assigned to the task. Its totally true that these people on the top wages and bonus surround themselves with berks who are continually dragged behind nodding their heads never quite achieving the promises they were offered. They are eventually worn into the ground and leave. I've also seen infinitely more talented people see the r-soles for what they are...and leave. This never seems to get questioned.I believe it was effect of the school and class systems, nothing to do with the royal family. A friend of mine pointed out that the same people have been in charge for generations. The only way to affect change would be to take out a whole generation. His idea was to cull every private school child for the benefit of the masses. The same way as we do with deer.
In the UK we are all created equal just some are more equal than others depending on where they come from and how rich their parents are.
It use to be you bought a commission in the army. It changed to you got a commission because your dad bought one.
In the immortal words of the clash " All the powers in the hand of the people rich enough to buy it", nothings changed since 1977.
I worked for a manager who's top guy earned more than him and the other managers, when questioned about this he said "He does more work than any of us", it didn't go down well so they cut his O.T. so he earned less than them. Guess what, they had to employ another worker to take up the slack. British managers for you.
Another thing I have noticed about managers in general in the UK. The always employ underlings that are not as bright as them and always agree with them. Suppose its a self preservation thing. The problem is that as you go down to middle and lower management most are as thick as a brick who's only talent is saying yes.
I come from the west coast of Scotland. We are political and we do think. The biggest problem we have always had apathy. It takes a lot for us to be bothered enough to do anything. Boris has single handily made this happen.
Sorry if there are spelling mistakes or my grammar is poor, I am the product of the early 1970's education experiments.
What complete twaddle I was a manager and director for many years at Coke, Heinz and Nestle and recruited the best people some a lot more clever and knowledgable than me because you want results. Management is not about knowing all or pinching other peoples ideas it’s about leadership, something we seem to have lost in the once great country.I believe it was effect of the school and class systems, nothing to do with the royal family. The Peter principle in actionWhat complete twaddle I was a manager and director for many years at Coke, Heinz and Nestle and recruited the best people some a lot more clever and knowledgable than me because you want results. I don’t understand what or who Peter is was etcn
The Peter principle in action
Its the principle that people who are good at their job will get promoted beyond their abilities, and then be ***** at their job. Rife in the UK workplace, along with presenteeism. Just some of the reasons why progressive work policies like the 4 day week or widespread WFH will never take off here.I don’t understand what or who Peter is was etc
Er … as a Manager you should know!I don’t understand what or who Peter is was etc
It is a myth we are all created equal, we are all genetically programmed, it is that programming which dictates our destiny. Majority will be the minions who will find themselves in the employ of others.I believe it was effect of the school and class systems, nothing to do with the royal family. A friend of mine pointed out that the same people have been in charge for generations. The only way to affect change would be to take out a whole generation. Sorry!
:hat:
God I wished you worked where I have. What I am saying is based simply on what I have witnessed over 40 years in work. What complete twaddle I was a manager and director for many years at Coke, Heinz and Nestle and recruited the best people some a lot more clever and knowledgable than me because you want results. Management is not about knowing all or pinching other peoples ideas it’s about leadership, something we seem to have lost in the once great country.
In my place the use of IT is monitored and we are accessible at all times. What the managers have discovered is they have an honest trustworthy work force. Before the pandemic only managers were permitted to work from home as only they could be trusted. Can I ask a question? What's a bonus and how do you get one of those? If anyone used strawberry picking as an excuse for not being available for work they would be disciplined for stupidity if nothing else and their flexible working privileges would be revoked. (It would be more serious as being paid to work while working for a third party is tantamount to theft)As for management, progressive work practices and working from home and the rest of the tripe ....where I work there is cronyism on a grand scale, thought theft that warrants prison and working from home that would make the Marie Celeste look overcrowded. The past two years has seen just a production crew of around 13 on site including 1 maintenance and sometimes a team leader as useful as my cat. The rest of the couple of hundred "worked from home"...mostly unreachable should we have had issues(excuses ranged from dog walking to strawberry picking)...and got paid productivity AND attendance bonus..yes attendance bonus while NO ONE on production did.
P1ssed off...just a bit.
It is a myth we are all created equal, we are all genetically programmed, it is that programming which dictates our destiny. Majority will be the minions who will find themselves in the employ of others.
Then change your beliefs.I find it so depressing that people actually believe this.
Completely contrary to everything I believe in.
