Hi all,
I'm just planning my first brew in a very long while, which I plan to do tomorrow morning. The last two brews I did were simple pale ales, using just Maris Otter and various hops, however in wondering whether I should add some crystal malt to this I had a look at my grain reserves and discovered that most of them were crushed in 2012, and others state a best before of around July 2013. One bag of brown malt hasn't even been opened! They've been kept cool and dry since, and fairly airtight, but I'd rather chuck them than risk getting a stale tasting brew.

What do you think?
