Hi all

I'm on my second brew, a St Peters Ruby Red after a successful St Peters Golden Ale. I am however having a recurring problem, lack of pressure in the keg.

I poured off my first pint today after 2 weeks in the keg (a taster to see how it's progressing). After pouring ok initially it slowed to a stop. I would expect of course for the pressure in the keg to keep it pouring until about half full but on both brews have done this same thing. The beer has cleared and tasted good but I'm concerned about the lack of pressure. It has been in the garage for the last 2 weeks in the keg and wrapped in a blanket as it's been cold recently. The garage is attached so it doesn't get close to freezing but I'm wondering if it's been too cold still. I've moved it into the house now just in case.

With the first brew of the Golden Ale I ended up using a CO2 canister straight away which made pouring a nightmare for over half the keg as the pressure was just too high so I want to avoid having to do the same thing this time.

Can anyone offer any advice and any action I should maybe take to remedy the situation?

Many thanks

After priming, the keg needs to be in the warm for a week or two. With the cold weather, the yeast will not have had much chance to produce CO2 while in the garage. Also, are you sure you don't have a leak round the seal? Too tight can distort the washer and you need to use vaseline.

Thanks for the reply.

Made sure that the seal is good and used vaseline so that shouldn't be the issue. I'll leave the keg in the house for the next week and see if things perk up a bit.

I think that's your problem. The yeast will go to sleep in the cold and your beer won't carbonate as a result. Warm it up for at least a week and then stick it back in the garage to condition.
