As I had a good amount of grapes from my garden this year, I thought I would have a go at making some wine but ended up with 4 DJ on the go which my wife was delighted with. I checked on them at the weekend and this is what I found.

1xDJ Red Wine made from my own grapes was ok, its now been bottled so hoping it will improve with age.

1xDJ Blueberry wine. This was made with Ocean Spray blueberry juice with sugar added to bring the SG up to roughly 1100. Its not quite done fermenting, but it tastes excellent so far.

2xDJ Sloe wine. Made from just SLoes and 1 250ml bottle of red grape concentrate. I couldn't believe how good this, I am tempted to keep some back for drinking.

Next up:-

More Sloe wine which I started with Sloes, grapes and Raspberry syrup. I will have to see how it tastes before I decide whether to add red grape concentrate.

Mango Wine. Random, but Sainsburys had boxes of Mangoes reduced to 95p a box (about 10 in each) so its worth a go.

Mead. I really like mead so will be starting some when I have a free DJ.

What weight of sloes did you use in your wines?

If I recall, I used about 8 lb of sloes made up to about 12 litres and added 2.5kg of sugar. After a week, I strained the must which gave me about 9 litres (2 gal 2xDJ). At this point, I then added 125ml of concentrate red grape juice and a level tsp of yeast nutrient to each DJ on the advice of the local brewshop owner.

There are still loads of Sloes in the hedges here in Norwich, once you find them, you just cant stop seeing them.

The Mango wine is fermenting away nicely, had a little taste and it was nice, but a little bland. Added some apple juice which has given it a nice balance.
