Hi all,

I made my first brew last Friday, and to be fair im not 100% what it would be classed as?

I boiled 2 x 454g jars of malt extract (Holland and Barrett ) into a litre of water and added 200g of chopped strawberrys.
Then after the malt was fully "melted in" I added another 200g of mushed up strawberrys.
Then added another 6 litres of cold water to this and added a sachet of "ritchiesproducts" real ale yeast.

As of today (so 1 week), by my calculations its around 3.6% abv, and a sneaky taste test showed it tasted strongly of strawberrys but very flat.

Could any of you guys advise if I shoud do anything else? I'm planning on leaving it another week, then bottling it into 500ml plastic bottles and adding a coopers carbonation drop to each, then leaving it another two weeks bottled.

Thanks for any help in advance & GBWC.

Err, no idea, hahah. Apparently they call a no-hop ale a Gruit. Strawberry Gruit in that case.

You'll probably find it's sweet and tart on the mouth. Good to hear it hasn't gone off because fresh fruit usually has campden added to stop any nasties - I would just leave it to it, could be the best brew you'll ever make. I still make the first recipe I ever bodged together regularly because it tastes great, you start overthinking things when you get into brewing.

My suggestion to you? Start with a kit beer :p

Well its not a beer as there are no hops, it's not a wine as it has malt in it and was produced using an ale yeast, and its got strawberries in it.

Gruit would have other herbal additions for bittering/flavour :wha: :wha:

As long as it tastes Ok and you are happy to drink it...........

Who cares what it is called.
