Nope its definitely a factor, its vicious circle as one car gets brighter and dazzles others the next car has to get brighter see and so it goes on.
The adaptive LEDs shown in the video should be made a requirement, the technology exists its just cost, if mandated the scale would bring costs down and encourage completion for a lucrative market. Again post brexit harder to achieve buy safety issues like this should be adopted as far and as wide as possible then they become standard, much like ABS was back in the day considered too expensive for anything but high end expensive models, regulations put an end to that myth. Not saying you can flip a switch but setting a date and specifying a system that does not blind on coming vehicles but offers increased light is win win surely?
much lower tech and not the same thing but my humble Kona has system on the main beam, if it detects another light source it dips the main beam, and puts it back on when clear, was suspicious at first but works well if ideas like this were adopted and improved upon the problem could be lessened.
Will this fix existing cars with blinding lights? no not sure how you can do that tbh as they meet type approval perhaps make it part of roadside checks measure beam pattern and heights, seen it done roadside for motorbikes
My car is 5 years old and has this system and it works well it should have been put on all cars years ago.
Ah...my Mrs Nissan does this..I thought at first it was wonky.
It does take a bit of getting used to i reached for the dimmer switch many times when i first used it.
Except they don't detect cyclists and the poor sods that can't afford a car end up in a hedge, but the lycra brigade buy super bright narrow beam bike lights to aim at oncoming traffic in an attempt to get those lights to auto dip. Then you're back in the same vicious circle of escalating light intensity.
I have the adaptive led lights thingies on my tesla and its freaky / awesome to watch it instantaneously blanking parts of the light beam off as cars approach, or even when you approach the car in front.
It should be mandated for all new cars as it's such a clever system. And yes it does the same for pedestrians and cyclists.

My car has the auto full beam thingy, but I don't think that is the problem, if the car approaching is dazzling me I flash them (ooh er missus!) to remind them and more often than not they then flash me back. Quite often the oncoming car will be coming over the brow of a hill as I approach, nothing you can do about, but I do think it's the modern headlights unfortunately, My headlights are ridiculously bright, great for seeing the road ahead, but without the auto dim they would be dangerous for oncoming drivers. Most cars on the road don't have a lot of the fancy pants tech available nowadays, so I fear we will just have wait until the vast majority of cars have the modern headlight systems and hope there are not too many accidents as a result.
