I need to slow myself down... currently brewing kits and decided to start amassing my equioment to go AG, however on the chat last night after a few beers i got carried away and got visions of granduer, it started with mark showing me his kitchen HERMS and i though well i may as well go ahead with that, however today, i have been reading a lot on the forum and seeing all these other HERMS builds i have scared myself a little, i dont want to buy all this kit and ruin it and most of the builds i have seen seem to be very complex indeed, lots of other things being thrown in which further complicate things for my level of understanding of brewing so far...i suppose i really need to do the AG from a very basic level first and then build up to HERMS, i do want to go shiny from the start, i am ready to buy the pots that i will need, what will i need to start the AG process, ideally i would like to fill two FV on one brewday, possibly different recipes, im looking at 50 ltr pots which i am happy to convert myself, i would like to buy the thermo pot so i have it here to stare at for some time before i even contemplate converting it..a parts list greatly appreciated and i will be buying the shiny from the german ebay place, i will be doing a deal with him for the lot.

yes, i just pm you as well :thumb:

I feel your pain loady!

I've spent a mint in my head and I'm trying to rein it in before I spend real money.

No HERMS, two pots, both shiny and that is still a decent budget...

two pots, one boiler for boiler and one for HLT ??..did you convert them yourself ?

Haven't started yet. It's looking like a 70l pot for combined HLT/boiler and a 50l thermo for a mashtun.

Can't wait to get building!!

Given that the difference between a 50 and 70 litre stockpot is 6 euro's I really can't see why you'd want to go for the 50L. A 50L thermos is a good match for 70L hlt/boiler.

I have one of the 70l pot I use as the boiler and its only really just big enough to not worry about boil overs if I am doing a 50l brew (2x25l fermenter). I would totally say get a 70l if your going to buy. I am still using a camping cool box as a thermobox and it works well. I was going to buy a 50l one for the site you mention but to be honest it works fine for the moment. when I can brew consistantly and have spent all my money on new pots and bits then maybe i'll do herms. Maybe... :hmm:

Here you go loady, the link to my build thread. It's moved on a little since the last of this but not by much.

Mostly I've been putting the shopping list of bits together and scaring myself silly at the cost! :D
