Hi

I am now on my third brew and my first Mexican cerveza.
I put this in the FV on Tuesday and right now it is looking very yellow
Is that normal? I done everything the DVD told me.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
JP

The DVD will tell you what to do. Better advice is just to do it for longer.

So - let it ferment for 2 weeks, not 7 days.
Bottle it and leave it in the warm for longer than suggested - 2 weeks never did any harm with homebrew.
Put it somewhere cool until your patience runs out.
It will still get better long after that.

You don't say which kit it is - Coopers I guess - must be others - or what you added to it - brew enhancer or stuff.

Looking "yellow" is perhaps the way that entry kits attract people who think they want to brew the stuff they are used to drinking (or putting up with). Nothing wrong with pale ale - used to be popular in the 1960's.

Nothing wrong with Coopers lager kits either, they make good pale ale. Really, seriously good. :thumb:

Thanks.
It is coopers I used with brew enhancer 2. I was advised 1 week in the FV, 1 week warm and 1 week cold.
It was also beer yeast I got with the kit.

It will also be great!

So, 2 weeks in Primary - helps clarity as well as chemically reducing fermentation sideput to ethanol
2 weeks in the warm after bottling - or as soon as the bottles carbonate
2 weeks in the cool - where it settles down properly and gets ready to drink.

You can cut corners time-wise and it will be OK, but it will be noticeably better for giving it 6 weeks from pitching.

Easy. :-D

Thanks for the tips.
I gave it 11 days in the FV. I will leave the bottles for 2 weeks hot and 2 weeks cold.
I'm getting thirsty thinking about it though

Thinking I may try this again with lager yeast to see the difference.

Thanks

I have done this kit recently. It was my first homebrew and after reading this forum I upped to timescales to those mentioned by Slid (I actually had it in my shed a day after bottling then brought it back inside when I realised I needed warmer temps.
Anyway, it is still conditioning after about 4 weeks (back in the shed) BUT I have had 6 or 7 bottles of it already and it tastes great.

Only downer is head retention, but that wont stop me drinking it and doing the next one.

Let us know how it goes, sure it will be fine.
