Max time in the FV?

Due to me ordering the wrong bottles (crown cap tops when I didnt have a capper :oops: ) and then further delays with the post after ordering a capping tool, my australian pale ale will possibly have been in the FV for 3 weeks by the time I can bottle it. Should this still be ok or is there anything I can do to rescue it, with no useable bottles or second vessel to transfer to? Reaally dont want to lose it!

It should be fine, just leave it alone and bottle it when you are ready. Optionally you could put it somewhere cold for the last week, this will help it get clearer faster.
 
Ok I may do that, it has been kept at around 22C for 2 weeks now so i may aswell stop heating it and let it sit at the room temp which will be around 15-16C, if this is ok for it. Then I assume after bottling the usual rule apples and I should store at fermentation temp again for a week or more?

Mine is in a bucket with airlock tho it isnt very airtight as ive never seen it bubbling on any brew.

Try these wine fermenters from various suppliers.

I have room in the garage but we are getting below zero overnight now, i could maybe get it under the stairs where I keep the conditioning stuff, that normally sits around 11-12C.
 
Ok, unbelievably a week after ordering my capper i have an email from amazon saying there was a problem with payment details so it hasnt gone through :shock: So my ale has been in the FV for 3 weeks and i have nothing to put it into a week before christmas so no hope of getting anything delivered in time (and no home brew shop within 60 miles).

I'm thinking im either gonna have to tip it down the sink or bite the bullet and buy multiple pacls of tesco bottled water, then tip that down the sink! :x

On a happier note, my mexican cerveza has turned out excellent and a few people at a gathering last night said it was the best home brew they'd tasted :cheers:
 
There was an experiment on basic brewing radio that looked at the effects of leaving beer in the primary for ages. They compared beer left for 2 weeks with beer left for much longer. I'll try and find a link for you but I think they concluded that it actually makes very little difference providing you keep everything sanitary and don't slosh it around b
 
I confirm what Puravida's saying, as I've had brews stuck in fermenters for up to 4 weeks before now, and there was nothing wrong with the taste of the beer - but do remember to lower those temps for the duration if you have reached your target gravity :thumb:
p.s. tip of the day for leaking fermenting vessels of the bucket type - I've found that if you swill sterile water/starsan around the inner rim of the lid, and immediately flick this out and place the lid on, whilst rotating the lid one way and another it forms an air tight seal ;)
 
Cheers guys, should be ok as i popped to tesco and found a better selection of options than i thought and cheaper too. They had 12-packs of 500ml carbonated water reduced to £2.50 so picked up 3 of them, also the bottles are not-too-unnattractive green ones much better than the usual Evian types so not a bad result :thumb:

The FV was at 22C for 2 weeks then put under the stairs where I condition my bottles at about 10-12C :)
