Just purchased a nice big pot from local bootsale.
Holds about 50 litres.
Was going to use as a boiler.
Only thing is that its ali with folded seams.
Not sure what the metal is in seams, its not soft like lead.
Have searched the net but cant find any info on seam constructed pots.
Any thoughts on what it could be.
Was told that pot came from a london hotel and was used in kitchen.
So hoping its safe.

Its more than likely silver solder as its quite tough and resistant to heat :thumb:

I would think so.

Does it have any scortch marks or heat marks to indicate someone has used it to cook before?

I wouldn't think it would get hot enough for gaseous compounds to leach from the metal or solder anyway.

Silver solder does contain lead, but at a guess there probably is more silver than lead content for the purpose that it was made for, i personally would not worry about it, the lead content will be minimal its a good bonding agent thats all, if it wasnt fit for purpose they would have not used the materials

Silver solder is still used today in the manufacture of silverware ie teapots and tableware

Thanks for replies.
Will use it then if I can get a propane gas ring or could I fit a element.
