Because MPH is greater than KTS and sounds more dramatic/significant. All about the spin….We recently had a post about a survey carried out where the majority of UK citizens would like to stick with metric. Why, when I switch on BBC news they are forecasting gusts of wind at 50MPH?

Until WW2 the US inch was smaller. They came together in the war presumably to help our war effort, as in the Pacard builtAren't US inches smaller..or something similar?
