Reliable ?

Mine has just packed up, temperature scale has suddenly decided to read 17/18 degrees lower than it should and the cooler circuit cuts in the fridge/chiller as required but then doesn't switch it off.

LEDs on the unit show it appears to be functioning correctly but it doesn't operate as expected. Unit just under a year old.

I've got one that's been in near constant use for what's got to be over a year, maybe two with no issue to date (it'll break now!).

If yours is less than a year old then it would be under guarantee so contact the seller for a repair or replacement.

Unfortunately with these things they're typically made in China for a very low cost with little by way of quality control so faults are more likely. Typically most purely electronic devices will follow what's known in the trade as the bathtub probability of failure curve whereby if a device is going to fail it will typically be within the first few hours/days of use after which the probability becomes very low for many years until the device is reaching the end of its life and the probability of failure will increase significantly again. In this case you've been unlucky and against the statistics :-(

My ITC-310T has started acting up after about 16 months.

It doesn't seem to make any attempt to heat or cool when in manual mode and a couple of the display segments have died, although it was still usable.

I thought it was still working ok in timer mode but I caught it a few days ago on stage 3 where it was supposed to drop to 0°C but instead it was sitting at 8°C with both heating and cooling switched on, so I unplugged it and just plugged the fridge into the mains directly.

I'll need to do some testing when I get some time, but I don't think I can trust it anymore.

Thanks to everyone for their replies.

I've emailed and had a response from Inkbird who have asked me to test the unit, which it failed.

Just waiting for response from them now.

Hi Inkbird,

Thank you very much for your support with this matter.

Yes I have contacted Inkbird Tech C.L via the email address on the instruction booklet ([email protected]) and have been dealing with someone by the name of Shun.

They have been very helpful and gave me a test to do by powering the unit up whilst holding the set button down. That way you can test the outputs to heater and cooler by pressing the up and down arrows.

Unfortunately it failed the test as it didn't apply power to the cooling socket.

There are two faults on the unit, firstly the cooling circuit does come on during normal operation but fails to switch off once the target temperature is reached. Secondly the measured temperature is showing 17 degrees C lower than it should be.

Shun emailed me yesterday asking where I bought the unit from (Amazon) and for the order number so a new one can be sent out.

I'll send that information across today and hopefully it will be sorted.

If I have any problems I'll PM you.

Thank you once again for your kind offer.

Chippy_Tea, thank you for your help too :thumb:

Mine's been great so far - touch wood - holding a steady 19C for the last 10 days nicely. But if it does blow up, I'll have it in bits in typical Gunge style. Rather try fixing it and fail , than all the fuss of getting a refund or whatever. But that's just me. Please don't blow up, please don't blow up....

Yes, I sent a message using the contact form on the Inkbird website and received the following reply which wasn't very helpful:

"Hi,
With the problem you described, because of the switch is closed with a fixed number of timesthe, so the relay was broken for the long time using, you can buy a new replacement.
Regards,
Shun"

I have PM you, please check the message.

This is a very timely thread. My inkbird developed a fault this weekend. It is 2 weeks over the 1 year anniversary of me buying it, so i'm not getting a lot of joy out of Inkbird at the moment. They have offered a small discount on a replacement, but given this has only lasted less than 12 months use i'm hesitant to throw good money after bad.

Has anyone else's unit developed this fault? It is neither heating nor cooling and no combination of buttons seems to do anything other than display a blank screen and both LEDs lit up.

Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris,

I hope I'm not treading on toes here but below is the test routine that Inkbird asked me to try.

1. Switch on Power whilst holding down the Set button.

2. After the unit has powered up you can switch on the heater using the up button and switch on the cooler/chiller using the down button.

My unit failed to switch the cooling circuit on.

Also the temperature reading was all over the shop, I know that you have 15 degree calibration that you can use to get temperatures reading to match but my was something like minus 17/18 degrees out.

I hope that you can get it sorted, spookily enough my units was only just under one year old.

I found Inkbird very helpful, both emailing them direct and "Inkbird" the forum member on here. Their email address is on the instruction booklet.

I think in the first instance the seller probably won't help you because it's one year warranty is up, but hopefully the manufacturer will listen to a disappointed customer.

Good luck.

Thanks Bob, i will try that tonight

It is the manufacturer that i have been corresponding with, with limited success so far. I understand that it is out of warranty, its just unlucky for me that it is only by two weeks (and i didnt use it for the first 6 weeks after i had bought it so usage time is actually less :-()

Tried that test this evening and it didn't do anything different to the picture shown above. Looks like it might be dead!
