On the one hand I am glad to be in the office tomorrow as we have working air conditioning on the other hand I am not looking forward to the journey home, last time I was commuting during a heat wave (2019) my normal 16 minute train journey was extended to two hours (Mostly waiting on the platform after one train after another was cancelled). So my plans for the heat wave tomorrow is t9 go to the Marks and Spencer’s at Oxford station buy a couple of cool beverages plug in my headphones and enjoy the wait for the train as best I can.

Going down to the coast tonight by train. Staying over for eldest daughters graduation on Monday. We complained that graduation ceremony was at 9am, but now that seems like a blessed relief.
Who knows what time train will get us back on Monday.

Er … I’m not in the 10% of people who don’t know what “Aircon” means (I used to lecture on the subject) but I am one of the 95% of people who don’t own one in the UK.

The climate change, coupled with the rising price of electricity and gas, makes the installation of a “Heat Pump” system almost essential.

I say “almost” because the money required to rip out a traditional Combi Boiler and replace it with a Heat Pump would require a number of years to recover the investment.

Some of us may not have the number of years required. :confused.:
:hat:
Don't you normally spend the summer on the Continent with the rest of We The Incontinent? Dutto?
Or are you already here.

Unfortunately “No!”

Between Brexit, Covid and breaking my left thigh I’ve aged more than a little. Two out of three we could have coped with but it all seemed to happen at once!

I’ve sold the bike (can’t cycle after broken leg), caravan (too much hassle) and will sign over the land on the 22nd of next month. (Inshallah!)

Our French friends now have to have a Passport to visit us instead of ID Cards and the waiting list in France is at least four months, due to a combination of Brexit and Covid!

Hence the “Sad” in response to your query. Hopefully, I will touch base with you when we come over in October as we do still come over to France.

BTW, back in 2004, when we sailed down the Saone/Rhone in our boat, I recall that a lot of people in France were dying from the heat. We on the other hand relied on water sprays and a fan! What a difference 18 years can make!

Enjoy the warmth, I’m sure this excess heat is pretty rare, even in France!

“Woof, whine, wag wag, pant!” to my mate.

It means “Hiya! Get your hair cut, drink plenty of water and stay out of the sun!”
:D

Hard luck Dutto - Have you tried an E bike? Wife has arthritis in both knees and one hip the other hip having been replaced (twice) but she can still manage 20 miles rides

Huge admiration for your wife!
clapaclapa

Not tried an ebike as I’m still learning to walk with a 3-wheeled walker! At the moment I would probably need a 3-wheeled ebike; :D but one day .. !

Many thanks!
:hat:

PS
Already got two new knees and a new hip when I broke my leg!

Apparently it was a “periprosthetic fracture” because the fracture was between a replacement knee and a replacement hip!

Oh joy!

Opening widows in house would only heat me up more and make the Mrs angry.

No cycling or beer for me on monday.

If we fancy cooked food, either the bbq or we can use the airfryer outside on a 13amp extension lead.
It still too hot a trip to chilled isle in 24 hr tescos via an air conditioned car will be in order

Check the opening times before you travel, there's quite a few supermarkets open during the night anymore.
