Does anyone else feel guilty pouring yeast down the drain ?

Yes I hate it. When I was brewing kits, I brewed kit after kit up to five times, on the deposit of the previous brew. The day I bottled one lot, I did another straight in the uncleaned fermentation vessel. This worked well and the fermentations were starting in a very short time and were flying by the next morning with huge krausen. Now that I am doing AG, I am getting much more trub, which is fine, but I don't feel confident about pouring new wort on top of 3 cm of trub, so I don't do it now. I'm sure there is some technique of washing the yeast off the mess. Not sure it would be worth the bother.

I noticed in the for sale section that someone was splitting a large pack of US05. I bet buying large packs is a cheap way to go. Paying even £2.80 ish for a small packet is sky high in terms of what the Yeast costs. My local HBS tried to sell me a small pack for about a fiver. He was shocked when I told him how much it cost from people like the dealers we have arrangements with (Home Brew Company and Geterbrewed).
