When i started brewing just over a year ago. i started off with the Youngs Brew Buddy starter kit from Wilkinsons. It only cost £20 and the end results are quite drinkable. They also do a L***R kit for the same price.

For beer I can recommend a kit with Woodfordes involved, whether you go barrel or bottle for storage is up to you.

For wine I hear good things about Beaverdale and KenRidge. I use CalCon myself because its what my local HBS stocks.

The plastic buckets, hydrometers etc are much of a muchness.

personly i would get the same thing from Wilkinsons for around £20.
As for the bottles, go to your local pub and ask them for there empty Magners bottles.

Ok thanks Corby. I'll look on the tinterweb for Wilkinsons..

Do you get all the equipment?

Danny.

You get everything in the kit except for the brewing sugar. But that only cost £1.99 anyway. I know the last time i brought one of there starter packs they where giving away a extra 40 pints kit as well. So for £20, you got -
1 x FV
1 x syphon tube
1 x Hydrometer
1 x trial jar
1 x tub of Campden tablets
2 x 40 pint kits.

No mate you dont get one of those, but a long handled plastic spoon only costs about £2.
I used to use one of the youngs ones, but now i use a SS bacon flipper. It only cost me 50 pence from asda.
