well Langley anyway!

I have made a couple of kits in the past and i do enjoy the beer but i am going to take th plunge and go AG!

I am about to make my first Mash tun from a £9 cool box from argos. I do have one question though. Can i use the plastic plumbers piping for the manifold or is it better to be copper? dont know if the plastic piping is food safe and suitable for the higher temps (I thought it would be as homes do have hot water in them!)

Tanks

Welcome to the forum

Someone may correct me, but I think the plastic domestic piping is only ever intended for waste - I really don't think it should be used for beer.

Copper pipe is really very cheap, and there are a huge number of fittings readily available for it that lend themselves perfectly to homebrewing - I'd say you really should stick with the copper :thumb:

Hey cutnrun, nice to meet you!

Yup, go with copper to be on the safe side.

I had to read your name two or three times - thought it said something else. Eyesight not what it used to be!

Thanks guys!

yep the name is one i have had for years and it has made a few people look twice, i suppose on this forum it may be the slightly blured vision that makes it even harder to get the name right!

ok copper it is! I may not bother soldering it... even if i do i will be using that liquid solder 'just for copper' as i am not to be trusted with molten metal!
