H I was looking at your full English recipe and I am curious what your thinking was for adding so much melanoiden to it? I think it's close to 5%? I am assuming this was the weyerman version too?

I think I was looking to add malt flavour but not add sweetness. If you want to try the beer but don’t like melanoidin feel free to omit it, I promise I’ll not be offended 😉

I think I bought it as a small repackaged bag from THBC so it was unbranded.

That makes sense to me, I need to pick some up so I was just checking. I like the idea of maltiness without sweetness. I have some Belgian aromatic I wonder if it's similar enough?

Today I kegged a new bitter that uses Admiral hops for bittering and Phoenix hops as a late addition. It finished at 1013 for an ABV of 4.8%.

In other news, I put a keg of German lager on tap for the family day we had on Monday. It was definitely a favourite and since then I pulled two more pints before the keg kicked. I need to get a couple more batches on quickly I think, at least one batch in the next few days.

Today I brewed a Czech lager. The day was pretty uneventful and I now have 20 litres doing it’s thing in the fermentation cabinet.

It’s a fairly busy week on the brewing and drinking front with another brewday tomorrow (bitter) and homebrew club also tomorrow. Thursday we’re out with friends for a pub lunch that I know will right-off the rest of the day 😉. This means I’m kegging my Pirate Pale and cleaning my beer lines on Friday and later picking up family from the airport - and we’ll have a few beers as they’re staying over. It’s also the Sours & Sessions competition at the weekend.

I got that bitter brewed today. No major issues but I didn’t have enough MO so I used a bit of Munich and dropped the melanoidin. Looks like I’d better get an order placed. Anyway, the brew is in the fermentation cabinet which is now full until I keg the Pirate Pale.

I’ve also just bottled the beers I’m taking to homebrew club tonight so you’ll not hear much from me later. Have a great evening.

This morning I’ve kegged my Pirate Pale Ale and already I know this is going to be a good one. It’s bittered using Centennial which I find gives a lovely clean dry bitterness and I’ve even been thinking of switching to it for my bitters. Aroma and flavour comes from a blend of complex fruity hops - Olicana and Jester as late additions, dry hopped using Ernest. I’m intending to serve this one with low carbonation like a cask beer.

My other job for today was to clean my beer lines. That job is done and as is my habit I tasted the beers after cleaning the lines to check the beers are still at their best. I did put two new beers on the board: the Munich Helles replaces the German lager and the Belgian Blonde replaces the Rye IPA.

Czech lager. In great condition.

Munich Helles. New. Still not quite clear but tasting good.

American IPA. I must have disturbed the sediment because this is normally crystal clear. Tastes fine though and I expect will be clear again when I next pour a pint.

Belgian Blonde. New. Again not quite clear but it’s only two weeks conditioned. Tastes really nice though, those Belgian esters are popping.

Porter. Still great, lovely beer.

Best Bitter. At peak condition now I’d say - very clean taste and crystal clear.

Imperial stout. My wife tells me this is still the same and very good! 🤷‍♂️

I haven’t brewed this month as yet so I’m getting a couple of brews on over the next couple of days. I prepared the water for another batch of Pirate Pale and for my German Lager. I also milled the grist for the Pirate Pale - the brew planned for tomorrow but the hops for Pirate Pale haven’t arrived today as expected so it looks like I’m now brewing the German Lager instead.
