Does anyone know a good place to get replacement washers as I need about 150 of them for some old bottles? Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to get to my local homebrew shop before I need them, and I'm sure they should be cheaper than 25p a pop in any case.

Are there any things to watch out for when getting them? I see there are lots of places online selling generic swingtop bottle washers that appear to work on all bottles (except kilner).

The homebrew company

If the HBC have them, that might mean some cornies fall into the basket too...

Edit: £3.45 for 50 washers. Much more like it.

I bought 100 from HBC as they were by far the cheapest I could find, but the quality wasn't good. The rubber cracked after four brews.

Hmm, that's worrying. I'd rather pay more and get something that was going to last rather than keep having to replace them. Guess there would also be a worry that the bottles weren't sealing properly if the rubber wasn't up to it.

What did you do in the end? Would silicone ones be a better bet?

I seem to remember someone posting their DIY solution using some kind of hose which they cut into washers not long ago.

They're as good as the original. I ran 3 of them attached to swingtops through the dishwasher several times together some original Grolsch swingtops, with regular dishes, just for the hell of it, and they're as good as the original. Probably gonna set up some sort of scheme where I upgrade them every 2 years or so.

Sheesh!!

At that price for washers (25p each) I suggest a trip over to France where in my local Le Clerc supermarket 100 nylon swing-tops with washers attached were about €8 and 100 spare washers were about €3.

I use old 650ml Fischer swing-top bottles which cost just €1.47 each, full of beer, over in France. :thumb:

I gave up on them in the end after losing too many beers that didn't seal and lost their carbonation. Just used crown caps and cornies from then on. Let us know if you find some good ones at a good price because my swing-tops are just gathering dust atm.
