Hello brewers,

I am new at this forum, and I have a question about the Grainfather G40. I have tried to use the G40 with my steam condenser, but I had a major boilover. For the next time I would like to reduce the power during the boil.
Does anyone know how to use the Boil Power Control in the settings of the G40. I found the settings for the G30, but not for the G40.

Thanks Eve

If, when you say boilover, I presume you are talking about the hot break. You can add a cap full of distilling conditioner which prevents the hot break building up and coming over the side.

Thank you for your reply. But it’s after the hot break that I start using the steam condenser. At that moment I would like to reduce the power to 60 or 70%

I don’t think you can currently reduce the boil power, it’s just stuck on PID control for now. I think this is in their future plans though, just needs a software update.
Thanks.
I hope they do the update. Now it’s a 100% power the whole time during the boil.

The boil power control is supposedly planned for a software update, but the option in the GF app does nothing at the moment. There is a lot of discussion about this on David Heath's Facebook group. There is a G40/G70 Facebook group with a lot of discussions about steam condensers. I only do 30 litre boils in mine and place the G40 near an open window with a large fan on full and the glass lid lifted about 5 cm on the side facing the window.

Thanks for the info. I will look on FB.

I don't think they updated the power app until after the original post.

I still have some issues with it, where thrle unit doesn't respond to me changing the boil power %age. I think this was due to some old recipes being made on the old equipment profile (i.e. pre-power control update). I've now changed them all to the new equipment profile (with power control option ticked) so hopefully have no issues from now on.
