evening all.

As some of you on here already now ive atempted my fist AG brew tonight. it a variation of the Styrian stunner, using Goldings instead od Styrian. i am now 30 minutes into the first 90 minute boil. (god its going to be a late one for me). anyway all is going well. ill post some pics later in the week to let you know how it went.

just a quick thanks to Wez, AT, ni9e and all the others who have helped me out with advise over the last couple of weeks. lads

Nice one davesiv

Wez, AT, ni9e and the gang bring yet another one over to the dark side

Sorry I couldn't stick around in the chatroom last night to see how it went, but I did start my own brewday at 6am.

Hope you enjoyed your brewday and everything went O.K.

Well done on taking that next step.Any updates?

Agreed, first time might be a bit fraught, are you doing it right, have you forgotten anything?
Second time is easier as you build confidence and have a better understanding of how your own set-up behaves.

Main thing is though, what they all say is true, it's a lot more effort and takes considerably longer than opening a tin and mixing a few things together, but it's really not difficult, you've made it yourself and it's proper beer, and when you taste it you can't go back. It can be even cheaper than kits too.

Well done mate hope you enjoyed it 1048 is fine looking forward to the piccys

Welcome to the darkside

startingtheyeast002.jpg

all done the yeast as been added to the FV

startingtheyeast006.jpg

all done it 4.30am just time to grap a couple of hours sleep. the FV is wraped up in its nice pink sleeping bag to keep the temperature at 20 degrees tii the morning.

i know these picture are not breath taking unlike some of the other brew day threads on the forum. but i hope that it just goes to show how easy AG brewing can be.

here is the reciepe i used

4 kg maris
50g goldlings full boil 90 minutes
25g 15 minutes to go
25g after heat is off

nottingham yeast

Nice one davesiv!! :thumb:

Im having to put off my first ag! was testing my home made boiler! and it was working, until it went bang and tripped the power yet again! got a good old telling off for that and what happened next (just say when testing a kettle element dont leave it on the carpet whilst testing!!) after the 2nd telling off I was told to buy a ready made boiler  need to save up my brass or find one of those 20ps thats worth £50! :thumb:

Great looking brew night :)

Have you still got the bag matt round it? Just checking as I am having to keep my FV in a water bath just to keep the temperatures down with the current heatwave! I am just managing to keep the 25C maximum recommended for S-04!

Nice one Dave! Great pics, sorry I wasn't around this weekend to see it happenning.
Looks good. Now time to plan the next brew!
