Hi all.

I have a 1kg kit of Finlandia traditional ale but no brewing sugar or malt extract to make it with.

I do however have a small jar of honey, a tin of treacle and a tin of golden syrup.

I have calculated that these three combined will approximately give me the 1kg of sugar needed for brewing.

Question is - will it taste like a dogs dinner??

Sounds like a caramal , toffee type beer could be good try it & see its all about experimenting this brewing lark

Cheers mate.

Just worried it might be a bit of a mess - but nothing ventured....

As greys says, treacle is quite over powering. At most, I would say a half tin. But, that would be in a beer of suitable darkness, like stout or porter, or possible even a dark ale. Is the finlandia a dark ale? Might be worth nipping to local corner shop if you must do tonight and get some extra golden syrup or some granulated sugar...

Now that you mention it - I used a tin of treacle with 800g of brewing sugar to do a coopers stout a while back and although it was very good, there was definitely an overpowering treacley taste.
Might just go for half a tin and some sugar.
Cheers guys - will let you know how it turns out.
