I really don't get why people take such issue with vegans and vegetarians

Because they're a right ballache when you have a BBQ and they need their own food, utensils and a separate BBQ before they're even remotely happy! :laugh8:

As I understand it, vegans have to take a B12 supplement. In the UK these are made from animal derivatives, in the USA they are not.
Having the knowledge of that, I think it probably would be quite easy to find non animal derived B12, provided you did your research

My vegan friend did that research and now buys B12 supplement from USA. Re Marmite - it contains B12 but is that a supplement or derived from excess brewery yeast ? So Vegans, brew beer, fine it with Irish Moss = seaweed, bottle condition it, pour out a 9/10 pint of clear beer into a glass, swirl the remaining 10% to loosen the yeast, and glug it from the bottle.........(do vegans eat yeast = a live animal ? ..........)

Yeast isnt an animal it's a fungi.

You can possibly get gout from drinking the yeast from the bottom of the bottle of hb. There's a thread about it somewhere on the forum or you can ask @Slid as i believe that's how he got it?

IN a witbier or the like I often swirl the yeast and pop it in the glass, adds to the flavour

But Yeast is fine for a Vegan as MuQul says it is a fungus, it is not a sentient life and does not contain a nervous system or experience pain ect

Of course there are those freaky fruitarians who wouldn't eat yeast either.

Or for a meagre $50bn you can learn how to live without any food and water. Price includes a trip to the 5th dimension. https://web.archive.org/web/20160304062436/http://www.breatharian.com/immortalityworkshop.html

I know some will not eat anything which casts a shadow

A contractor who comes in couldn;t consume yeast he is Jainism, his diet sounds really hardcore, they do not even eat root veggies

I think Jains aren't massively far away from fruitarians when it comes to diet - anything that kills the plant itself is not allowed, if I understand it correctly. Imagine life without potatoes. Imagine dying, never knowing the joy of chips.

Maybe a pork scratching sandwich? Wholemeal bread of course for fibre. Oh and a Berocca on the side for your vits.

Yum! Sounds great, but skip the wholemeal and Berocca bits. No jest, I had a 200g pack of pork scratchings about an hour ago and apart from 2x 1000mg vitamin C tablets last night, that's all I've had in 24 hours. Finished my night shift 8.5 hours ago at 6am today and I am absolutely bouncing off the walls. Mebbe y'all should try it and stop listening to clueless scientists.

Well after 7 pages off forumite waffle, I've discovered via the power of google that B12 can be stored in the body for 3-5 years! So I dont even need to bother about it

"Unlike most other vitamins, B12 is stored in substantial amounts, mainly in the liver, until it is needed by the body. If a person stops consuming the vitamin, the body’s stores of this vitamin usually take about 3 to 5 years to exhaust"

My biggest gripe with veganism is that these people apparently do not realise, if you do not use any product from chickens, cows and pigs, that veganism means that these (human evolved) animals should become extinct.

A chicken will lay eggs, what should be done with those eggs, throw them away? A cow must be milked every day, or it will die.
I don't think we're doing them any favors :) What do they know? And if they knew how their life would pan out I think most would opt out of ever existing. Cows bred for our milk production need to be milked or I think it will suffer (or die from infection?), otherwise breading unaltered the calf and mother will be fine.

I think vegans realize this. It all depends on your out look, do you think they suffer, do you think they suffer but you're happy to consume - they must suffer allot in my opinion (I'm talking animals not lucky enough to be hunted or kept in A* free range conditions).
