Selling a few growlers to each customer that can then be taken home is no different than carry out. If feasible, a drive-up sort of deal where the pub employee is running the orders out to the cars which would encourage people not to gather (if that is happening). With online ordering, it's hard to imagine any objection.
We're getting hammered by the virus now though places are still open for the most part. We're in worse shape now, numbers-wise, than when we shut down months ago. The gym is open which I'll take a pass on. I go there for the running track and I just don't think I'd enjoy running through everybody's exhaled air. It's bad enough when you smell someone's fart the third time around. That tells me: A) the track isn't well-ventilated if you can smell the same fart for three laps. B) I suppose I prefer inhaling a fart to COVID-19.
Never thought that would happen.

What annoys me is our government keeps being given choices, and even a random answer would have a positive effect about half of the time, but it seems that EVERY time they have to make an informed decision, it seems to be the wrong one?
Is there a national response? Is our army and navy being used right now to cope with this biological threat - a threat they have been trained and equipped for since basic training?
Why am I seeing people wearing faceshields but no masks at all - like it is some kind of invisible forcefield around them.
Regular nurses still wearing paper masks and getting sick because of it. As I walked home this evening past the local I see it full of about 20 people, the only two wearing masks were behind the bar. Let's just hope that one of them doesn't have it.
:(

Schools, colleges and Unis open (most unis teach online now), as far as I know factories and big manual processing plants still open - as work from home if you can. This will not stop or reduce amount of infections massively. I think there will be extension after 2nd Dec.

Banning take away beer for me doesn't make sense, lots of pubs survived last lockdown thanks to that.

Perhaps if they said that takeout had to be sold in sealed containers it may help but there would still be people sat outside drinking. It wouldn't be up to the police surely a licencing issue? There are more pubs, plus there are other things happening which would draw police away from standing outside pubs.

Shops near me being stripped again.

Media has done its job and instilled disproporationate fear into thinking it is armageddon.

If we do come out of this lockdown this year we will be at the beggining of flu season.. Whatever the state of play is, things are going to rocket.

But don't worry we will have beaten it by 2021 spring :laugh8: (I think he meant 2025)

Not under the current Covid laws. In lockdown, remember, you are only allowed to be outside for specific purposes, and sitting outside a pub drinking isn't one of them. In fact, the powers are very Draconian; if you are asked to go home and refuse (even if you believe you have a valid reason for being outside) that refusal in itself is an offence, I believe.

So the police could deal with things pretty easily.

It is questionable as to how effective face masks are.
The only large scale study is by a Danish research body who it appears have come to the wrong conclusion. Medical journals are refusing to publish the results of the study.
The masks are probably more to do with giving people confidence to go out after the goverment and media have terrorised every body to a great extent.
To me it is all looking more about politics than it is about saving lives long term.

My mum used to say the medical masks we see everyone wear with the blue outer layer in theater used to have to change them because after 20 minutes they would be useless to prevent droplets passing through. SO after 20 minutes of use their effectivness is significantly reduced.

That being said I suspect its much better than nothing at all.

I’ve been annoyed at the “no takeaway alcohol” thing too. If you sell bottles, cans, growlers and other sealed containers there should be no problem at all with it.
I know of some breweries who had a “order online, deliver to your house” thing set up - are they not allowed to do that now? Why can supermarkets still sell beer to go when the pub and brewery industry is in dire need?

And needless to say, Amazon can still sell beer. We have to support those poor, starving billionaires. I agree with the lockdown, but this ruling is stupid and can only hurt our pub industry.

If they are just 5% more effective than no mask, then I am prepared to use them without question.
I believe to other issue with masks is the handling of them and the touching your face with unclean hands, while putting them on.
I always use hand gel when taking them on or off.

The brewery where I work have been doing the home beer delivery since March and will continue to do so through this second lockdown. It is mainly draught beer that is packaged in plastic 'milk containers' with tamper evident lids. I was placed on furlough yeaterday, as no brewing will take place until the stock in the FV's & CT's is diminished, or it is deemed safe to reopen the pubs.

I wouldn't see a problem with pubs being able to deliver on the same basis, especially as many people don't live close enough to a brewery to get it delivered direct. It would allow existing stock to be sold and allow small breweries to continue to supply the pubs.

Do you all think will be simply poured away on Thurs?
I wont be stepping in to a "spoons" either to "help out" for 99p a pint.
I understand there's a std letter going round to register your displeasure. I prefer the thought of burning then at the stake.

The number of people dying in the UK is more than 10% above normal levels - with almost all of the excess linked to Covid, official figures show.

There were 12,292 deaths in the week ending 23 October - 1,100 where Covid was mentioned on the death certificate, national statisticians reported.

It brings the total number of deaths that have been registered this year and linked to Covid to over 60,000.

That is out of nearly 430,000 deaths across society in 2020.

The figure is higher than the government data which shows nearly 47,000 people have died with Covid.

But the government figure only counts those who have died within 28 days of a positive test, whereas the national statisticians' records are drawn from death certificates filled in by doctors.

These national statistics, drawn from Office for National Statistics and its counterparts in Northern Ireland and Scotland, show the number of deaths linked to Covid are doubling every fortnight.

This is in line with the government figures.

Because of the length of time it takes for infected individuals to fall seriously ill, any impact from the lockdown in England, which starts on Thursday, will not be seen in the death figures until the end of November.

I think closing the pubs is a mistake they should have said you can drink with a pre booked meal for no more than two hours this has worked here so no need for the full ban in my view.

I haven't a clue how long beer keeps in a cooled cellar so if it's more than 4 weeks they may not need to pour it away.
