I'm going to order up a couple of coopers kits in the next few days. This stout has caught my eye so I'm looking for a few tips on how to get good results out of it.

I was thinking:

500g Dark DME
500g Dextrose
500g Dark Treacle

Do you think that would make for a nice mix? Should I ditch the sugar in favour of DME or Treacle? The only reason I was thinking 500g is that 1kg would make it a very expensive kit.

Also, has anyone tried both the stout and the irish stout kits? Is there much difference?

Cheers :)

personally i would not put that much black treacle in but some do and seem to like it. its a very strong taste imo
the rest looks good.
i tend to just use 1kg of brewing sugar and keg it. suits me and is perfectly acceptable.
ive done both kits and i prefer the irish stout but the original is very good also

Thanks :)

I might hold back on the treacle then, I love black treacle (and treacle toffees etc) but I'd rather be safe than sorry when it comes to this.

Based on that I'll go with:

800g Dextrose
500g Dark DME
200g Dark Treacle

Yummy :D
