Hi Gents, what gas do you use....Food Grade or industrial welding type bottles?

Just been on BOC website they have many listed....?

Also best places to buy said Gas...........aunsure....

So you need to find your local gas supplier to the restaurant type pub trade rather than go direct as that can be more difficult.

Where I am (north Hants) All liquid Dispense Direct ALDD do 6.3kg bottles delivered to me for £16 with no deposit. They cover quite a large area so if your close it’s worth a message to them.

I use Hobbyweld food grade. I get it from Dumfries (used to be Portree when I stayed on Skye)
Cost is £31 for a refill (9l cylinder - 6kg of CO2). No cylinder rental charge, but there's a one-off deposit of £65 per cylinder (refundable if you return the cylinder)

This might be the solution to my problem. I'm only a few junctions up the a3 from you and after some co2. Will give them a call!

Yeah your Guildford or something right?

They do a run in your area once every two weeks. I always have two bottles (at £16 each why not) one I’m using and one as a full spare.

Couple of junctions further south than that. Definitely sounds like u should give then a call!

That’s gotta be the Ming or Milf? I’m a member at Hindhead Golf Club and I live in the village the junction after liphook. You’ll for sure be in their delivery areas.

If you can get your hands on a CO2 fire extinguisher then they work perfectly. Note the orientation should be upside down though as to avoid drawing liquid CO2 into your regulator.

You can easily get extinguishers refilled and there's no need to pay rental charges like you would with a cylinder from BOC, for example.

CO2 is CO2 at the end of the day, I'm personally not concerned whether it's food grade or not.

Why do the majority of homebrewers use co2 bottles and not 60/40 or 70/30 or even 50/50? I've never used co2 just a 60/40 which I do really like. But obviously curious as all of the places mentioned sell all variations of beer gases. Is it better, does it carb quicker better last longer? Cheers

Hydroponics suppliers often do CO2, I use one I think its £10 a bottle 6kg or whatever which they say is refundable & £10 for fill if I recall correctly.

I don't really know but CO2 is the only gas that can carb it so I imagine 50/50 you would need twice as much unless you don't need the dissolved CO2 as much.

The nitrogen part of a pubgas mix will not carb a beer but it will deliver the characteristic creamy head because of its smaller bubbles.

the mixed gases are for commercial set ups that have a long run, to avoid fobbing. 60/40 is for lagers mainly, and 70/30 is for smooth beers (guinness, john smiths etc.) You only really need CO2 for a homebrew set up.
