50% have blue eyes.
50% have a mix of brown, green, red.
So..
Blue 50%
Brown 30%
the rest 20%

Majority = blue.

The dictionary definition of most is a majority.

The majority in this case is blue eyes.

Most people in the UK have blue eyes, they hold the majority.

OK...What about GREY eyes..? Most people I know, who THINK they have blue eyes, actually, have grey ones. Very few (of those in my circle) have blue..

(just thought I'd throw that one in...)

I've got blue eyes, so there. :thumb:
?..not blue/grey...are you sure? Check in the mirror:arrow:

I've got BROWN by the way - the colour of a good ale - and a ar.... boot licking tongue:drunk::tongue:

I'm not sure if it solves the argument either way, but of the 50% who don't have blue eyes some will only have one eye or even none.....

Pedantry? I'll give you pedantry. I reckon it's only 48%. Wikipedia agrees with this article. It's above 50% in Ireland and Scotland but below in the rest of the UK, which is where most of the population is. Tell your sister to put that in her pipe.

MyQul is right, it´s not most but should be more. As 50% is still the biggest portion but 50% is still more, as the other 50% is made up of all other colours. With regards if the statistics are correct or not, grey eyes are classed as blue so I think it would be pretty realistic. It's the same for most of north western Europe.

So technically you are right, but if life learned me anything - it's to not argue with women. If you're right you're wrong. Just say she's right and back away slowly, avoid eye contact and try to stay out of the wind else she might sense fear.

Well technically correct is my favourite kind of correct.
Oh I'll be sure to gloat over this for as long as possible, it's these small victories that make life pleasurable :D

I know it's difficult to tell from my avatar picture but I have blue eyes which is how the argument started. I said that everyone would choose blue eyes if tell hey had a choice because it's obviously better. She said boll**ks because most people have blue eyes anyway so it's too common.

The gene that gives you blue eyes is stronger and will be most dominate when breeding

Leon, according to a NHS midwife friend of SWMBO's, (we call her 'Nursey'), it's exactly the opposite...Nursey says: when parents have blue and brown , the kids have brown. You only have blue eyed kids if both parents have blue eyes.....
.....just passing on Nursey's knowledge, dunno if she's right.....

She's wrong. But just because you have blue eyes doesn't mean you just have blue eye genes. So two parents, one blue eyed one brown often produce brown eyed kids because the blue eyed parent has genes for both blue and brown. Basic O level genetics.
So probably beyond anyone educated in UK since the invention of GCSEs.

Thanks CWRW, that's interesting :thumb:....wait 'til we see Nursey again....!:-?

If it's a veiled reference to flouride in the water supply I'm closing the thread right now

Oh no not again, someone once mentioned floride in the water turns your eyes blue.. .lol

The blue gene is recessive in eye colour, brown is the dominant gene. I think those stat's are wrong, as maternity staff these days are thick as .... any hazel - blue/brown eye genes baby will generally have blue eyes at birth after six months sometimes more the colour becomes apparent and I doubt the birth records are changed.

Eye colour calculator: http://genetics.thetech.org/online-exhibits/what-color-eyes-will-your-children-have

There are exceptions to the simple Brown/blue, green and pink (albino) genetic rule. Found this to explain.

I was going to say that. I have brown eyes, my wife had blue, my son as blue. Same with my brother and his wife and kids.

Luckily the OP didn't have the hair colour agrument with his sister. Natural blondes are to become extinct according to a few studies.
