For some reason a get a lower efficiency when I use the Crisp Europils, I’m not sure why since I love their pale malt. I’ve never used the Weyermann one because it’s usually more expensive and I’m a tight a**e!
Lol fair enough. I treated myself to weyermann, will see how it compares. Interesting in terms of efficiency, I've got the same efficiency with both.

I too have never really found much difference in the other grain efficiencies and variance maybe just down to good or bad harvests unless somebody knows different

Possibly, tbh I'm not sure how I would measure that as from year to year my brewhouse efficiency changes through improvements so wouldn't notice harvests. This is just my observations though.

I'm in this advanced homebrew facebook group which I think is mostly American, someone was asking the difference between lager malt and pilsner malt or something and the conversation descended to a few people saying "you an only make a lager with Weyermann pilsner!" I asked what difference they could taste between Weyermann and other lager/pilsner malts as for me they are interchangeable, and funnily enough I never got a response...

Hops won't be affected as much, around 4% more for EU hops, but no change for American ones.

Iain, great post but...
When/If we leave the EU, will we still have a trade deal with the US (as the current one is EU-based), so won't trade with the US revert to WTO rules and tariffs as well until a new trade deal with the US is signed?

I'm going to be putting in an order for my next two brews in the next week or so but this has got me thinking maybe I should order in 4 or 5...

I do 20l batches, have a fair stock of bottled brews atm so not many bottles or space spare and two kegs which are about to be filled from my FV's. So the likelihood of brewing the next 5 beers could take me up to a year (hopefully 6 months). So my question is how long can you keep grain for before it starts to spoil the end taste of the beer?

Living in Belfast, will i have to pop over the border and smuggle up Irish and EU products? brexit could turn me into a criminal!

As part of the EU we trade with the USA under WTO rules (the EU / USA trade deal, TTIP, fell through). This won't change if/when we leave. We might gate a deal with the USA in the future, and that could cover hops, but nobody know if or when that might happen.

Any trade arrangement we have with US are done through EU, so if we leave on no-deal, back to WTO with every single country - unless we sign an agreement on 1st Nov.

Currently buying grain and hops from a local brewery - he charges me £1/kg , not sure where he buys it in bulk. I hope in UK, but then again the logistic chain for European malts is unknown to me.

The USA is one of the WTO members with which the EU has neither a trade agreement or preferential access. We don't have trade arrangements with the USA, other than via the WTO, because the EU don't have trade arragements with the USA. We would have if TTIP had been ratified, but it wasn't, so if/when we leave we will still be trading with the USA under exactly the same rules as we currently do, so nothing will change.

Just thought another issue is EU farm subsidies, I would guess most likely we will keep paying them at least in the short term but have no idea really.

Seems one of my posts has gone missing even though it did not mention the word nor did any of my other posts, but the title of this thread does as do 7 other posts, boot me off if you like I don,t care, I just find it amusing people are worrying about spilt milk before it's spilt it makes no sense worrying about something you have no control over acheers.

I removed it. Every Brexit thread has gone the same way. Locked. For this thread to remain open it needs to remain tightly on point i.e. What might be the the financial implictions (as well as access ) for us HBer's with regards to brewing ingredients. If someone wanders a little off topic, the next person to respond to that post wanders a bit further etc, then eventually the thread has to be locked as it then strays into a political 'discussion'

Some great info from @IainM & @simon12 regarding tariffs for forumites like me who haven't got a clue about this kind of thing. Will help members decide whether to get some ingredients in before the proposed D-(or should we say B) day.
My own plan is, if things do happen to get too expensive, I live about a mile from the Bermondsey beer mile (a section of SE London that has about 5 or so breweries all very close to each other). So I'll email them and see if they'll sell me a sack of malt cheaply. I mostly use English hops so I dont think they'll be too affected, if at all (I'm sure someone will point out if Im wrong on this)

Hold on I made a reference to Brexit when I first joined , had a mail and my reply removed. Why hasn't this thread been removed.

Because I think, as I mention, some good information for members to use to decide whether they may want to stock up on ingredients. Rather than the thread being a political discussion or a members opinions on Brexit.

The comment that was removed was meant in a light hearted way if it offended I am very sorry and will refrain from such comments in future acheers.

And I took it that way. I'm usually the first to be posting irreverant stuff. But the B -topic is a quagmire filled with giant elephant traps. Nothing personal. I just think, this is one thread on the topic that actually has some 'practical' use for forumites
