Hi

Have just bottled the above and has been in FV for 11 days and was bang on target at 1.008 FG

May be worrying for nothing so can anyone give me a decription of the "colour" and opacity of their Tripels please ?

I was expecting a Leffe Blonde looking liquid but at the moment it looks more like an Erdinger or perhaps Blue Moon would be nearest. I have done this specifically to leave till December 23rd to 28 th so it has plenty of time to morph into something drinkable

As usual thanks for any replies - and I have the photos but think Blue Moon covers what I have got lol
 
How long has it been in the bottle for? If only for a couple of days, then you should see it start to clear from the neck down after about a week. I made this kit a few years ago but seem to remember it was quite light in colour and was clear once conditioned.

I have found that Brewferm Belgian beers take a while until they are at their best for drinking. This can be anything from 3 to 12/15 months depending on the kit. The Tripel and Diablo (not called that now) were very good after 3/4 months whereas the Christmas was excellent between 9 and 15 months. I still have a 750ml bottle of the Christmas Ale which is now 32 months old but is probably past it's best now.
 
Thank you both. The Photo does indeed show a Leffe looking coloured "beer" which is encouraging

Also I reckon the colour will be right ultimately but beer is opaque at the moment. I will resist looking for a week from now and I guess that Pavros's opinion will then be proved correct and clearing will be evident

I dont intend to open any until December 24th so that will give it 4 months to "mature" and if that proves too soon I can ignore the other bottles for longer

Where did you get it from? Most my usual suppliers seem to have stopped doing these kits, plus they've been re-branded. Oud Vlaams Bruin was my favourite, followed by Triple and Abdij. I really like these kits as they can go into 33cl bottles and are nice when you don't fancy a full pint.

got 2 cans of brewferm imperial stout from the home brew shop (the one in aldershot) last week they seemed to have lots in. May be too late for crimbo 2020 tho wink... . it's only good for 7.5% and 9 litres, however that's easily fixed :laugh8:

They’ve been repackaged and seem to be available again, brew2bottle have been selling off older style as bb dates are coming up, have there Pils on the brew and will dry hop, brewed this last Christmas for next one, tried one 6 months in and it was superb! Colour looks same as mine. Roll on Christmas
 
Leading on from the above I have now opened my Leffe-a-like and it was g-o-o-d

Colour great - clarity incredible - it looked and tasted like Leffe if a little stronger in taste. Superb head when I poured it - brilliant tight and white but thats when I hit the snag

I went with a 400 mil Leffe Glass into which I got about 300 mil of a 1 x Litre bottle and of course when I stood it back up the "sediment" contaminated the rest of the bottle. I still drunk most of the bottle but it looked unsightly so I am wondering what people suggest please

Chill it down to see if the sediment solidifies a bit ? Store the bottle to be used at 45 degrees so it goes to the bottom corner and allows me to get more out ? Decant all at once into an oversized container ? Siphon it out ? Or anything else that people have tried and which worked

Ultimately I will go to my King Keg or other PB and take the sediment out of the equation as this beer is too good to waster
 
LOL - yes its much stronger than Leffe - just beown 9pc so the last bit will be a given !

Very sensible suggestion too - and it was one I had thought the post practicable. I have a large Hoegaarden Pitcher mybe 2 litre capacity so I will try that next (and anything else suggested on here)

I suppose prevention better than cure so wonder if Carb drops would be better than sugar ? Never used the so no idea if they promote sediment ?
 
It makes no difference; you will get the same amount of sediment. For a given amount of carbonation, you need a certain amount of fermentable sugars for the yeast to consume, which will multiply into the same amount of yeast cells (that's the sediment).

Different yeast strains might be more flocculant (i e. Stick to the bottom of the bottle better) but a big part of a kit like a triple is the 'Belgian' flavour given off by the yeast so changing it to something like Danstar Nottingham (which stick really well) would totally change the character of the beer.

I had never seen or known anything about Carb Drops so will still avoid them if they drop sediment. Stop gap - just bought a clean new Pitcher from Asda for £4 so will decant a Litre a time into that

Then will get barrel 6 though of course the Leffe-a-like will obviously improve with age so will take up a Barrel long term

Glad to report that the simplest method - decanting into a 2 litre jug worked a treat

Great colour great head great taste - 7 litres left of first batch - so will try to keep some for a massive birthday in Mid Feb. Also did 9 more for that date but they have been in bottles only since Bonfire Night so pretty young
