Hi folks,

My Father has just recently bought a 50L braumeister plus that we are yet to brew in (need to sort the garage out first).

Has anyone ever brewed less than the 50L in one? I saw they sell a shortened malt pipe to let you do 25L but I wasn't sure if this was actually needed.

Thanks in advance

To be fair in my 20L BM I could go down to maybe 15 post boil at a squeeze. But if you have a 50L BM you don’t want to be messing around. Go big or go home

As others have said use the shorter malt pipe. I have the 20bm and a 10l malt pipe.

I’ve never used the 10 litre pipe though as it’s just the same effort to do 20. You may find that you may as well produce 50 litres! That way you do do 20 litres split batches too.

you will need the shorter malt pipe. if you brew short in the 50 litre you potentially will leave the heating element dry and burn it out. i would use it as intended
Is that because the malt pipe will be holding most of the water once the mash starts? I'm assuming it gets pumped up through the grain and pipe and then overflows back down.

Apologies for the ignorance, I haven't seen much of them in action and have only seen my fathers once, just looking to get a bit more of an understanding about it and can only grasp so much from YouTube videos

Cheers the reason we were interested in doing the 25L would be for a newer recipe that weren't not sure off, that way we wouldn't be wasting as much if it didn't turn out well

Yes and be careful cleaning after, don’t put either malt pipe unless you’ve well enough water, or like me once you will burn the elements!

That the reasoning I had and why I got the 10 litres but have never used it. I suppose it depends how may fermenters and kegs you have and brew fridge space etc. I guess 59 litres is a lot more though!
