Im planning my first BIAB brew this weekend using a recipe i have put in beersmith. It is telling me to mash for 70 minutes followed by a 10 min mashout for a light beer or a 90 min mash for medium body. I was under the impression an 60 min mash was normal so should i mash for longer or not?

I usually mash for 60 mins, but it's not gonna cause any much harm if you were to leave it for 90. It's usually the mash temp that drives body of your wort and length of mash doesn't have as much of an impact in that area as mash temp does. Or at least that's my understanding of it. Dont worry about the mash out, especially if it is your first brew day as you will wanna keep it simple. That's something you can look into when you get more experienced :)

Longer mashing will give better conversion so better efficiency. Mash temp. is what will affect body, as explained above. Mash at 64C will give a drier brew. If you want lots of body and a thicker mouth feel then start your mash as high as 70C.
