Best way to get a label off a bottle

The 'steel wool' type pan scourer pads.

I've used similar, put a drop of washing up liquid on the glue that's left and scrub and it works well.

Sorry but a bit of topic but if your using 2ltr Cider flagon, i use them a lot and found plastic Champagne corks fit the neck.

Kopperberg and Rekordilig labels float off the bottles in a couple of minutes, when soaked in hot water.

If you have acchess to a drill - preferably a pillar drill, use a rotating wire brush on the label. Should remove it in less than a minute, especially if it’s been pre- soaked. May leave a small residue of glue which can be removed in water with a wire scouring pad.

Please do not use steel or brass wire. I used to do glassblowing. A scrach form a metal wire can result in the glass breaking into shards when in contact with heat (like when sanitizing).
If you want to use this solution, then go with a nylon bristle.

Soak 'em in parafin and scrub 'em with a wire brush

I use zippo petrol lighter fluid to get labels and residue off.A tin lasts a very long time.

Most German bottle labels will soak off easily, because bottles in Germany are re-used, not like our throwaway society.

Best bottles Ive found are Lech , the Polish beer , Very little effort, short soak or the dishwasher , they come off leaving no residue ...nice beer and nice green bottles too
