To get mine exact I got a 4" strip of stiff card across the centre, trimmed the length until it fitted nicely then got the measurement.
Worked for me..
But as Vossy said, not all are the same. :?

Good tip thanks John :thumb:

Think I've some thin mdf so will make a template
Don't forget to cut it to the contour of the tun, slightly curved or you won't get a true measurement.

Well done on your build BB and congrats on the ale in the pub too can we get it in Hull???
Don't know, look out for the pump clip.
He's sent a few casks down south, think he said London way.

John if I may pick your brains again

The shed was absolutely soaked after the other nights brew, so need to look at ventilation. How did you cut the holes in the copper lid, qmax cutter??? Also how did you cut the hole in the SS bowl.

Just seen your question Sean, did you sort it or do you want me to post a few pics?

Cheers John but I've not long installed an extraction fan I picked up at a carboot, I bottled cutting holes in my lids

Will have to see how good it is come winter :wha:

Hi BB

Excellent set up   , I will copy your boiler vent arrangement if you don't mind.

Can you tell me where to buy the insulation used for the HLT and boiler please as this looks better than anything I have found so far. :wha:

Thanks

Chris

Hi Chris,
The insulation is on a roll from B & Q, not the best available at insulating but does the trick and looks nice.
Mine is 3 layers thick. :thumb:

The extraction works great, just make sure you create a dip in the pipe when brewing to collect the condensate.. ;)

Kev

Amazing stuff, I totaly agree about the copper.. a brewery isnt a brewery with out shiny pipes every where!

Where did you get the spray fitting from for your mash tun?

Hi D. :thumb:
The sprayer was kindly given to me by Corby Brewer when he packed in brewing for medical reasons,,,,,
The person that made the sprayers was eskimobob who is a member on the forum. :thumb:

how have i only just found this thread ???? still, it was good to read it all in one go, what a sweet setup. i think the stand is the most polished one i have seen yet. and the tight fitting false bottom has given me goose bumps. i am going to push myself to finish my herms before christmas now! thanks for your inspirational post.

Its a great thread and build, just read it myself, been dormant for a couple of months, Darcey bumped it from 28th June. :D

P.S. I do like the idea of steam for sterilising. ;)

I am inspired!

I will be building something similar over the next year. Its only the pipe work I cant get my head around. Head scratching and a plumbing mate will prob be needed.
Deff going to build a plastic herms before xmas tho. Just have it set up with my cool box arrangement for now. Need to get the by-pass loop and piping sorted in my head before I solder any copper.

I am moving house in 2 weeks and I will have a cellar 6x8M~ totally dedicated to brewing.. so expect some pics on that one over the next year.

Im not sure what I like more the shiny or the beer...

Hows the HERMS going John ?

Was it worth the extra build effort going HERMS ?
Hi Phil.
I would definitely say my brew days are more involved and interesting now and I also get a nicer more controlled beer brewed than I did before.
Since I posted the pics last year I've upgraded the boiler to 100L and put SS sheet to replace the wood on the frame.
If I get chance I'll post a few new pics.
