I totally agree Chippy they should not be driving. People with bad eyesight prescribed to wear glasses for driving and do not should also be taken to task.
Flip flops and stillettos too
Wearing earbuds.
Smoking while driving
Eating while driving
Dogs in front cars seats not tethered so they can jump around
Have I missed any?

Yep driving in narrow heels isn’t easy - but block heels are fine … If coming back from a party and driving then yep I drive barefoot.

Voice activation has been in cars for decades. I've had a number of cars with voice activation and none of them have worked reliably if at all. Also voice activation is a pain when there're others in the car and talking so telling people to shut up whole you tell the windscreen wipers to come on or turn off is a bit silly. And I don't really want to talk to my car...just give me a bloody button. My car is just about the one an only sanctuary I have where I can not interact with anyone else and cocoon myself away from the world so the last thing I want to have to do is to talk to my car to turn on the windscreen wipers. Seriously what's the problem with buttons? They worked, they were intuitive, they were mostly standardised across cars so if you got a hire car or something everything was familiar...I'm just not sure what problem it is they're trying to solve.

And the big screen in my Tesla is dangerous. You really do have to interact with it on every drive. Massively distracting. Voice control is as useless as any other car I've had with it, and though you can configure steering wheel buttons to functions, you can't operate as you are using the wheel, i.e. turning, and you're limited to the number of configurable buttons and you can easily forget which button you've configured to which function. So not really an alternative that fixes whatever problem they perceived with physical buttons.

You still think they make cars that's the problem.

They make money FIRST the secondary effect is cars. As soon as I got to grips with that a lot of design/manufacturers sh1te made sense. Cookers / cars / gadgets / brew machines & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on

I kind of agree...they're white goods - certainly EV' are, there are plenty of 'petrol heads' out there who love certain cars not be sue they are the best or fastest but because of their imperfections. Though I'm an engineer by trade and spent most of my working life as an engineer, I now work in marketing and know full well that products are a result of marketing so I'm potentially exposing some of my engineering nature and bias in that question - the reality is that they don't sell products but feelings and experiences. The actual product is a secondary thing.

The car i currently own is the first to have a touchscreen and i love it these are the main things i would never be without now i have owned it -

Reversing camera.

Sat Nav

Hands free phone.

Smart phone connectivity.

The only thing it doesn't have is Android Auto my next car will have that.

All these things were available in cars long before big screens because trendy. I don't have an issue with big screens per se, just having the interface for EVEYTHING via the big screen. Touch screens are crap on cars, I've lost count of the number of times I've aimed for a button on the screen, then a big undulation or pothole has moved my arm at the point of contact and instead of selecting a radio station, I inadvertently open my glove box....or something daft like that. Thankfully we don't have ejector seats in cars yet or I would have inadvertently shot the mrs out of the roof a few times now.

To be fair sometimes these companies know what we want before we do....for me I poo-poo'd heated seats and heated steering wheel before I had a car with one. Who knew I wanted them at all, but wouldn't have a car without them now, and if I did I would retrofit.

I agree but the convenience of having them all in a single screen rather than having stuff stuck to your screen is a massive plus.

Really how often do you change stations and how often have you really missed the button, i wouldn't want to go back to -
