Anyone doing dry January?

Nah, need to empty some bottles for my next brew! Anyway beer is liquid bread and bread is a food staple so I see it as part of a healthy and balanced diet

Not doing dry January no but have definitely eased off after the break. Like most I do the square route of feck all during the holidays, other than sit on my erse and eat & drink far far FAR too much. Looking back I actually had four completely dry days out of the two weeks off, which is more than I was expecting. That said after me and the soon to be Mrs Wheazy had a night out on Saturday I did feel relieved that the drinking was over for the holidays and I could get back to normal. Not had a drop since then (five days is a major achievement!).

I'm now beginning to look forward to a beer this weekend, whereas during the holidays it became a bit of a chore. That's the way I like it, work hard(ish) during the week and enjoy a beer to unwind at the end of it.

Cheers!

I find January quite depressing due to the rubbish weather, dark evenings, not a lot going on and lack of money after Christmas. Need booze to get through it :)

Admittedly have had a few dry nights this week (Mon-Wed) although I may be tempted by a little tipple tonight.

Effectively had a dry January last year against my will, was going through a health scare which luckily turned out to not be cancer but I was put on drugs for anxiety that weren't recommended to mix with booze  Lost loads of weight and it probably did me good but I'd still rather not repeat the process. Actually wasn't as bad as I thought it would be but then getting pished was exactly the first thing on my mind.

:whistle:I'm doing dry January. Seven days without a drop tonight when I would normally have two or three a day.

Call me a heretic but I feel fantastic for it.

I will not be doubling up in February, though. In fact I'm thinking of have 3-4 nights off the booze when I get off the wagon.

This really sucks. I'm doing a dry Mon-Thursday instead of the whole thing but non-alcoholic beer is awful.

I will say something for Brewdog's Nanny State which is hugely hoppy without any of the booze; helped me forget I was going without but you still get that dryness from a lack of mouthfeel.

I've been forced off the beer due to a bout of labrynthitis (extreme dizziness from inner ear viral thing) since 27th December. Almost back to normal now but couldn't drink (didn't want to) while on the dizzy tablets.

May have a few beers this weekend, have bought myself a couple of half pint glasses (Sharps doombar) off ebay with the good intention of trying to drink halfs instead of pints. Will see how long it lasts !

Ive been playing a lot of that labyrinth board game with my kids, think I have a version of labyrinthitis.

Good to hear we are all (well most of us) thinking about our bellies, hearts and livers.

But by god I need a beer. Luckily I have realised its Exeter v Liverpool (who I support) on telly Friday, so I can break my five day beer fast and enjoy watching our laughably bad brand of footy

I thought Dry January was going on holiday somewhere hot....and dry, for the whole month?

I'm sticking to my Sun-Thurs (school night) dry, but Sammy is going for the dry month... I might have to brew less this month :nono: or smaller batches.

I thought about it.... Was a nice thought but sitting in a bar on madeira whilst I write this, and a mates upcoming stag next weekend it will remain only a thought.

I'm not planning on a dry Feb or March, just hoping to drink only what I brew for at least one of those months. Trying to build up reserves to stop brewdog receiving all of my hard earned money!

Edit... Afore mentioned stag is getting married in March so that's off the cards!

No, no and no.

I've done Dry July a couple of times. I didn't find that too bad until I was cooking the Sunday roast. Being probably the coldest month of the year here it was always nice to have a glass of red while getting the meal prepared.
I found after going a month with no alcohol I didn't drink as much to start with, but by Christmas I was back up to "normal" level.

I did pack in drinking for 4 months a couple of years ago when I lost my job. But then got back into it when I got employed again. As I was earning less money then I was still looking at ways to save money which is how I got back into homebrew.

I did mean to cut back and not drink Mon - Thurs. However I now do two jobs and Mon - Wed was really hectic last week so it didn't happen.
Started the no drinking Mon - Thurs this week instead. My other half is taking the kids away for 4 days on Friday though........

Well done to all of you doing it though.

I did a Dry November... Was actually planning a SoberOctober but it would never have worked with the RWC2015 going on...

I'm in training for a half marathon in Feb so taking week nights off the sauce while I do the bulk of my training.
The problem with having a kegerator full of beer is that it is so tempting to just pour yourself a pint...staying strong so that I can lose a bit of weight and, ironically, sleep better midweek. It'll go out the window around my birthday (4th Feb) but I feel better for it, even if it isn't exactly fun.

how many of you are willing to keep a beer diary for a year charting how many pint you've drunk etc.
I can't be arsed but if anyone can it might be quite interesting.

The problem with that is I start losing count after about 3 or 4 pints :(

Have to say that having only had three pints since 2nd Jan (and no other booze), I am feeling a bit less lethargic. Definitely getting better sleep. Except when next doors bloody baby screams all night

I had viral labyrithitis many years ago, I found the meds didn't make much differencxe and spent a large proportion of my day sitting in a chair trying not to move my head because it made me feel dizzy and queasy. The only thing I found DID help was a beer or two - after one I could walk around my flat, after two I could walk to the pub!!
I do think a few dry days a week is a good idea though.

I didn't fancy any beer when bad with it, back to normal now but reduced the beer intake quite a bit.

Had 1.5 pints Friday night after 2 weeks dry then 4 pints on Saturday night - had a really bad nights sleep on Saturday night.

Would agree with others about not drinking does have me feeling a lot more alert - going to try only drinking on a weekend and limit to 2-3 pints if possible then.

Proper occasional nights out wiith the lads will still be boozy affairs no doubt.

Dry January? No chance!

I was a January baby which means that it's usually an extra wet month :drunk:

Yeah it's noticeable how much better I've slept, and getting out of bed hasn't been as foggy. I take amytriptiline for a stomach problem too and it doesn't react well with booze, makes me groggy in the mornings even off one or two pints.
