there's a slip of paper with it that is written in Chinese and that's it.

I know its a PID but that's as far as my electrical knowledge goes, can anyone enlighten me more ? and more importantly advise me what else I need to use it to switch a small tubular heater on and off in a fermentation cabinet...and also....how the hell do I wire it up to said heater...lol..

looks vaguely like an stc-1000 to me. if you search the forum, you'll find a few how-to's. Not really a PID, but will control a heater and/or cooler for a fermentation chamber fine.

I've found some instructions on google

http://www.willhi.com/Documents/WH7016Cdatasheet.pdf

I understand its more or less a thermostat and not a PID as such.
I'm hoping thats good enough for a small heater and a cabinet to assist in fermenting cabinet for bottles and brew.

What's puzzling me is where the mains wires go in there seems to be only 2 connectors for input, doesn't it need an earth ?

oh how I wished I'd paid attention at school....

If there is no earth terminal it doesnt need connecting but make sure you connect the erth through to the heater as this probarbly will need it and use an rcd plug or adapter if your fuse box doesnt have one so you cant electricute anybody.g

Terminals 1 and 2 are the relay contacts. Wire live to 1 and connect 2 to the heater. Also connect neutral and earth straight through to the heater. You'll also need to connect live and neutral to 3 and 4. It won't matter which way round.

that's the sort of simplicity I like rpt.
One point tho what connects to terminals 3 and 4 live and neutral from where ?
