Just one other thought I've just had, Is how about being fairly restrictive on the recipe, But allow 1 other choice in Malt and Hops

that is
Pale Malt
Crystal Malt
Chocolate malt

Plus a 'Magic Ingredient' chosen by each individual brewer

Hops could be Choose up to two from

Goldings, Fuggles, Styrians, Challenger Yada Yada Yada

Plus a 'Magic Hop'

Yeast . . . anything you choose.

We brew a Bitter

1.042 to 1.048
36 to 40 IBU

Using ANY or ALL of the following:

Pale
Crystal
Chocolate
+ 1x Brewers Choice Grain

Fuggles
Goldings
Challenger
+ 1x Brewers Choice Hop

Yeast = Brewers Choice

3 choices of malt + 1 guest + various ratios of each
2 choices of hop + 1 guest + various ratios of each
random water treatment
random yeast

So it'll be easy to draw comparisons then :hmm:

Well, i can but in pellet form and i hate pellets as they clog my strainer. If it has to be pellets then i'll need another 5 days to get some over from Australia.

I believe that commercial breweries are allowed .2% +/- abv from their advertised abv ... so i'd say yes
