An aeroplane is on a MASSIVE runway sized treadmill. As the aeroplane pulls away to take off down the runway/treadmill the treadmill in turn reverses at the same speed. As the plane reaches 50mph going forwards, the treadmill matches the speed of the plane by going 50mph backwards.

Question...

Will the plane ever take off?

I've tried this one on a few forums over the years. I think the 2nd time, on a car forum, it resulted in one or 2 bans due to people being over aggressive with their assertion

Yes Mythbusters did do it and they found that an airplane still takes off, even on a big treadmill...
