    multivitamin wow

Multivit WOW  Is that an attempt to get your 5 a day in one glass

    The non 'WOW ' factor.

I would think not, as long as its a pure juice, that's the fun of experimenting. Incidentally Orange and Pineapple makes an excellent lava lamp whilst fermenting - as long as its kept away from the top of the DJ as its very volcanic.

    Beer guidance

Thats an interesting brew. It make it with 0.5kg brew enhancer in place of sugar and it comes out more like an ale than a lager. I actually prefer the taste to a typical lager and have made the kit a few times. I have only bottled this one to date (not kegged) and leave it for a month before...

    TURBO CIDER - Supermarket Concentrate

I tend to make my own from SM juice or apples if i can get them, but i have made quite a few cider kits in the past and despite the low price found the brewbuddy kit to be pretty good with a little modification. I would brew it to 20 litres substituting 2 litres of water for supermarket apple...

    wine making books

This is a very good book from Ben Turner, giving recipes for every month of the year. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0010K4X3O/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

    Phew .... it's a weird world ...

I lost track of how many of those glass hydrometers i managed to break so i did some digging in the loft to find my old boots plastic one. It's reasonably accurate and a lot more robust and easier to read than the glass ones. You can still find the odd one on ebay, they look like this...

    Wine kit question

Brewing short is a fairly common practice to enhance the flavour of a kit wine. That said these days i only brew short on lower end kits like Cellar 7 and then only by a litre and they turn out consistently well.

    Cellar 7 merlot kit

Correct thank you i was thinking of Beaverdale........used to use those kits before i moved on to the Kenridge

    Cellar 7 merlot kit

I re started my kit making hobby some time ago with the winebuddy kits. They are cheap for a reason. I couldn't get a decent red out of any of them even with a lot of modification trials. Then again with only one litre of juice its hardly surprising. I never did try a white, and some here...

    Cellar 7 merlot kit

I never top up after racking either in a demijon or fermenting bin. With the 5 gallon kits (approx 23 litre) there is a good 2 inch/50 mm air gap at the top while it clears. I usually leave them for a week if using finnings and 2 weeks or more if not.

    Cellar 7 merlot kit

I have tried most of the Cellar 7 red kits and the Merlot was the one i was least impressed with. My current favourite is the Italian Red but the Cab Sav isn't bad either after a month or two.

    Warsteiner mini kegs at Costco

Yes they are reusable, if you can get the bung out in one piece. I struggled with that and ended up getting a replacement other than that all good.

    Frozen parsnips.

Either is fine, but i find chopping them up makes processing easier later. i do the same with Rhubarb.

    Degassing?

Same here, made wine of all sorts back in the late 70's and 80's and never degassed anything in my life. I did/do rack at least 2 or 3 times so i suspect that may have something to do with it. In addition the use of potassium sorbate to stabilise the wine and prevent further fermentation...

    Vinotainers (5/10/20l)

I have used all the standard sizes. The 20 litre are very heavy when full so i no longer use that size. 10 litres is managable and the 5 litre size fits nicely in the fridge for white wines. I probably use them around 3 times before getting rid. I store them in trays indoors as a friend...

    Fermented orange juice

The only thing i have tried more volcanic in fermentation than pure OJ is OJ and pineapple it makes a nice summer drink though. The 2 demijohn idea is the way to go, good luck with it.

    Plum Wine has not cleared

Did you use pectolase ? If not you could try using finnings as a quick fix option, its worth a try. If that doesn't work then your down to filtering or as brumbrew says drinking in a mug. Nowt wrong with cloudy wine as long as it tastes good.

    Rhubarb wine

That's a bit weird mine always tastes very strongly of rhubarb what recipe did you use ? Never used it myself but maybe use a lowicz syrup to give it some flavour ?
  19. E

    Branching out and all that..

Crush the rhubarb add the water and the campden tablet (and any sugar you may want to include) - then leave it for a week

    Connoisseur shiraz

Just loosen the lid and put a cloth over the top for a little added protection, works for me when i get the odd lively one..............
