Have been given a few of these, are they safe and strong enough for carbonation? They would be the perfect size for some nice strong belgian beers so i would like to use them if possible, anyone tried them?
Ive got some 5l djs that i thought id try a 6 bottle kit in, so headspace wont be a problem, just want to see how the wine is recieved first as its mostly for my parents and in laws
Just a few questions, should i use a separate fermenter from the ones i use for my beer? Also are shop bought used screw cap bottles ok to use? if so how long can i age the wine in them? Can you leave them as long as corked bottles? Any kit reccomendations would be great too im looking at doing...
you mentioned dms but thats normally a buttery or popcorn taste if im correct, just to be sure though do you boil with the lid off? And whats your chilling method?
Thehomebrewcompany extract kits are very well priced, they are all £5 i think when i last looked, they dont contain any fermentables though so you would need to buy either dme or lme or use them for an all grain batch
Star san can be fine with some tap water depends on your water, it doesnt matter if it goes cloudy, it can even go cloudy in bottled water, the ph of mine is fine when mixed so i just use tap water and dont bother reusing the solution
there might be a way of doing it but i think you would need more pressure to push it through beer line, i would just leave it as is, you could always fit a dalex type tap to the keg for a better pour
when i use lme in a brew i add it after the boil to the hot wort but ive never done extract, ive only done mini mash this way. Im sure itll be a good beer in time though
I usually use all spraymalt but sometimes with a lighter beer style ill use brew enhancer, the enhancer my lhbs stocks is around half dme though so its higher in dme than most.
