I've just ordered the Tettnang Tiger Lager kit as my stepping stone to the dark side. Hopefully the result will please SWMBO and make up for the all pervading smell of boiling hops.
Sorry to bump an old thread, but want to order one of these kits in the future and wanted to know besides the grain etc what to they come with, or will I need my own grain bag and irishmoss/protoflac etc
that's quite expensive! I'd rather put it together myself...it's very easy with extract. your amount of DME and then hops. you can make a good IPA from just 100g of great hops. centennial, citra, amarillo, chinook etc will all suffice. i wouldnt say 50g is enough for an IPA!
have a shop around for a cheap price on dry malt extract. I pay £2.30/500g at my local and use 2.5kg-3kg for an extract brew.
Rob's is cheap but out of stock at the mo, unless you wanted to go for an amber...
Thehomebrewcompany extract kits are very well priced, they are all £5 i think when i last looked, they dont contain any fermentables though so you would need to buy either dme or lme or use them for an all grain batch
The first 2 extract brews done were using Brew UK kits. They maybe are a tad more expensive than doing it yourself but I found it quite reassuring having the recipe and step by step instructions the first few times I done extract. I done the summer ale and bavarian weissbeir and they were both lovely :
