A little walk along Bermondsey Mile

First stop was Moor Beer Valts, which is one for the heavy rocker. We started with Claudia, their Wheat beer. Pretty standard wheat with a good amount of yeast taste. Next was the Smoked Lager. This was an experience, one that I won’t rush back to but not so unpleasant I wouldn’t try again. This...

A little walk along Bermondsey Mile

So I had wanted to do these as we went but I felt rude sitting in front of my friend on my phone. Luck has it that I used an app yesterday that ‘Tracked’ my locations. I’m going to try and recap the where’s and what’s of the afternoon.

A little walk along Bermondsey Mile

After dropping our kit off in the hotel we stopped at BrewDog. Not everyone’s taste but I can’t resist the Jet Black Heart. Love the nitro and looking at getting a set up in the house. If I do, this will be the first clone I do. The next was a lost pint. We walked in the wrong direction and...

A little walk along Bermondsey Mile

Just heading to Bermondsey and wanted to try and log all the sights and tastes of the day. The gramma will get worse as the samples increase but looking forward to an interesting day with the main aim of trying as many styles as possible. I jokingly suggested to my friend joining me that if we...

    Foaming Yeast Starter

Thanks, looks like I'll be purchasing another flask. It's a stupid question but should I get a 3L or.....just go straight...... to the 5L? ..... 5L it is 🤣

    Foaming Yeast Starter

The correct equation for anything homebrew is always: Y+1 = Correct amount Where y is the item in question, 😆 @foxbat where do you get them from

    Foaming Yeast Starter

Thanks @RoomWithABrew, this was helpful. As feared I'll need to invest in a bigger flask. I've started making 2l straters so I can decant 500ml off to store. This one is an Irish Ale Yeast (WLP004).

    Foaming Yeast Starter

Here is my next issue. My yeast starters seem to foam excessively. Both this and the last one foamed right at the start of fermentation, is this normal? Should I start the sir plate after initial fermemtation? Should I speed the stir plate up, currently as slow as possible to stop if foaming...

    Is my Tilt playing up

Agree with most comments, I use it as a guide to fermentation but still take a FG with a hydrometer. Also agree they are expensive, but tried the ispindle and wasted £40 and sold my motorbike and decided to treat myself. The first 15 brews this has been straight lines, only this one which has...

    Is my Tilt playing up

My tilt seems to be fluctuating at the moment and I don’t know why. Has anyone else seen this? I've twisted the fermenter a few times in case it's gunk on it, but seems to continue

What are you drinking tonight 2021?

A very disappointed Hefe Wheat kit that I wanted to spice up with some fruit. I may have overdone it with 1kg of mixed fruit berries, 250g raspberries and 10ml of raspberry extract from the MM. The main issue is the artificial aftertaste. Will it mellow out with time? Only been in the keg...

    What did you brew today?

Hit the ground running with my first AG of 2021, and it was a bit of a nightmare. Ended up with 17l and not the planned 19l. I guess it'll make the bottling/kegging easier and quicker. Standard recipe kit from the Malt Miller, the Tiny Rebel Urban IPA. Devised to try adding the dry hops at...

    Black IPA

I’m a really big fan of BIPA and brewed about three in the last year. My last one I added the dark malt in the last 15 min of the mash and sparged through it. This gave a lovely colour, good dark malt taste but little of the bitterness. I think it let the hop bitterness/taste compliment to the...

Bottle before lagering, or lager before bottling?

I was considering this, but not sure if it would work. Idea being: - Brew - Ferment at 18C - Keg - Lager at near 0c for 4 weeks - Transfer into another keg (closed transfer to avoid oxidation). I think I’ll bin the initial litre as it’ll be yeast and trub. Thoughts?

    Whirlpool

So when it says whirlpool I thought it meant bring down to temp (80c), add the hops and then whirlpool for about a min before leaving it to settle for 30min. Does a whirlpool need to be consistently moving the wort?

What are you drinking tonight 2020.

How can you overload on the dark nectar!!!! I’ve just finished my BIPA keg and so pulled off my first Doom Bar Clone. Not a ‘clear’ as I’d like. No off tastes.

    Yearly Brew Schedule

Fair one, and that’s what I’ve been doing till now but fancy a little structure (and something to do/research for 6 months when I can’t drink). Hoping to do some back to back brews that mean I can use the same yeast and bulk buy grains.
