    Thermometer

I use the LCD strip one on the side of the bucket and it has served me pretty brilliantly so far. I am only a kit man but I am not sure that it is incredibly vital (to have exact temp) as long as you are within a couple of degrees of your optimum... I could very well be wrong but not had a brew...

Newbie....started off a rose wine yesterday, no bubbling yet

yeah the lids are not always good at snapping shut properly so all the activity beneath isn't necessarily appreciated fully. you can tell often by just putting your ear to the side of the vessel that it is going....

    geordie lager

ah weak is no good... I will likely avoid. Liking my coopers loads and my harvest youngs is due soon which is pretty cheap. my LHBS does it for about 9.20, cheaper than chips.. that said it will still likely be tastier than shop bought cack!

    B*stards

Coming from an army family I used to have a bucket load of respect for those who work in uniforms, but as the years progress I have found the police to be nothing short of bloody worthless, petty piles of uselessness. I got collared for answering my phone whilst driving... My fault shouldn't...

Baz Chaz has a very good point, I have a wierd hayfever freaky thing going on too where it is really bad but only for short periods throughout the summer, not a homeopathy kinda guy but there has to be some mileage to looking at pollen types about when you at your worst!

    Looking for advice

Don't let it stress you, this is meant to be an enjoyable process and it will be. Just make sure that it has finished fermenting, which will be about a week probably in this heat. No more bubbles or activity showing for a day or so. When you bottle stick with one teaspoon of sugar per half...

    Favourite Film Quotes

'One of us is crazy, you probably think it is me, which is okey dokey!' 'I am the wild blue yonder. The front line in a never-ending battle between good and not-so-good. Together with my stalwart sidekick, Arthur, and the magnanimous help of some other folks I know, we form the yin to villany's...

    geordie lager

What are those geordie brews like? My pal who does a bit of brewing himself is a geordie and I thought it would be apt to do a batch but not got round to it yet.

    Coopers Canadian Blonde

Philip is right, get yourself a hydrometer. A monkey could use one, really. That said, I have not bothered with doing readings for my last 3-4 batches. I tend to leave them be for a week and then I know (from a kit anyway) that they have finished. It's like having a baby but not finding out...

I cracked open a new batch last night and there is no way I will ever be forced into drinking carling again... commercial stuff just isn't a patch... surely with your niece being ten you could have easily wrestled her to the ground and nicked her vodka... :)
