    Heston's Fantastical Food Channel 4

I did, it's been one of the better episodes of the series... but it's nothing compared with Heston's Feasts, Heston's Search For Perfection, Big Chef Takes On Little Chef, and How To Cook Like Heston, all of which, as a foodie, I have taken something from (and have a couple of the associated...

    Blueberry Wheat Beer

Hmm, so how about if I was to add blueberry juice towards the end, before racking? (I could brew it a couple of pints short, or something) ... either that, or I just make the On The Rocks Blueberrry Cider, but that's not as fun, haha.

AA Emergency Response (boiler cover) sucks balls

I used to work at HomeServe, and if the AA cover is anything like it was at HomeServe, whilst issues like leaking pipes (which are causing damage, and unable to be contained, so not counting external overflows), are deemed an emergency, the boiler cover was breakdown, so even if your...

    Blueberry Wheat Beer

I'm a massive Doctor Who fan, and I want to make myself a beer in time for it's return to our screens in Spring. My figuring is, make a Blueberry Wheat Beer. Why? Because I like wheat beers, and then I can also call it... Blue(berry) Box Beer (because the TARDIS is a blue box, yersee) My...

Beer #2 - Youngs Harvest Stout

I'm a new brewer, so I could be wrong (but don't think I am), but yes. And even if you didn't have to, I would anyway, better to be safe than sorry. I also sterilised the mini keg, despite the fact that when breweries get them brand new, according to the fella at the homebrew shop, never...

Beer #2 - Youngs Harvest Stout

Not doing anything until the new year, now, as I don't have anything to put the beer in (and funds need to be spent on presents for family, rather than more bottles/barrels at the moment)

Beer #2 - Youngs Harvest Stout

Done, only took a couple of hours, so quite happy with that :) 2 bottles look a bit sediment heavy. I wouldn't have filled them, myself, but my dad insisted I did, and mark them as being full of sediment, and open them last. I remain unconvinced, but very convinced about the rest :drink:

Labelling your bottles (with your own labels)

This is what I plan on doing, I've done a little logo that I'm going to print out (at the local uni printshop, because they charge reasonable prices for colour printing) I knocked this up to go on the bottles And then below with a chalk pen I will put the type of beer it is, for example, my...

Beer #2 - Youngs Harvest Stout

So, this is how tomorrow is looking for me...

Beer #2 - Youngs Harvest Stout

Just drawn a sample to check the gravity of it at 6 days. Started at 1.040, now at 1.010, so that's a success (since my last beer stopped at 1.016, or something like that, IIRC) Doesn't taste too bad either (had to give it a try, didn't I?). Gonna keep checking the gravity over the next three...

    King Keg Incidents

You're making me real nervous about my first brew, which is in a top tap King Keg, which I had reservations about in the first place, but, ho hum, it's what came with the kit. All further barrels are going to be bottom tap ones. Because then gravity can do the work. It's amazing what can be done...

    Bottling question

I've not bottled anything myself, only barrelled. But what is to be achieved by doing it in two lots? You're only going to have to sterilise the syphon/little bottler twice, and you're going to have two sessions of sterilising bottles. I'd suggest doing it in one go, to save having to go...

    First brew questions.

Just noticed you said you used the bath to sterilise in... what I do is use the actual FV bucket itself, about 10 litres of hot water with the appropriate amount of sterilising powder in it. Bung all your stuff to sterilise in it, have a sandwich, watch telly for half an hour, then come back...

Beer #2 - Youngs Harvest Stout

I was going to go to Leyland Homebrew today to choose a stout kit, but yesterday morning, I was pacing the living room out of boredom, and decided to pop to my closer homebrew/magic water pills (sadly they sell homoeopathy hokum) shop, to get a stout there and then so I had something to do...

    Thanks, to our sponsor thehomebrewcompany.co.uk

From my experience when I worked in the call centre for Home Serve, the customer isn't always right, or at least the customer likes to use the phrase "What about the customer always being right?" when they're not covered for something xD Glad to hear you had a good experience with them, I may...

    First kit brew

I need to get some vaseline for when I barrel my second brew I've just put in the FV this afternoon, so I think I may pop into Wilko's for it then, and get my turkey baster (or two, maybe) in time for Christmas/for future brews. At the same time, and just keep a stony face at the checkout

    First kit brew

I've just done my second kit brew (literally just sat down). I don't have a turkey baster (planning on buying one, but it'll be used for basting a turkey, and then it will be no good for brewing, as I bet the turkey juices are a bitch to clean out). I just use a funnel and a ladle. I use the...

    Beer stopped fermenting too soon

It's a kit. I don't really have the option of leaving it for over a month to mature, because I need it drank and the barrel empty for a stout to be in it, in time for Christmas

    Beer stopped fermenting too soon

My general gut feeling is that it's been sat there too long now, and will taste like ****. I'd rather throw it away, if it's going to be ****, and try again, than be sentimental about it and drink it because it's my first beer, despite it being ****. edit : Today is it's 17th day in the FV...

    Beer stopped fermenting too soon

Possibly would have been worth a go, but my nearest home brew shop doesn't have any. :(
