I suspect he is recovering from C19

Look I have no dog in this fight as I have neevr voted tory so far but you're posts suggest you habour a complete blind hatred for him and his team? It seems to be fueled with an irrational contempt?

I mean surley you realise he was ill right?
Nah, it's more a sense of despair rather than blind hatred. I keep remembering all those reports of him talking about washing hands and social distances while going into high-risk areas shaking hands and passing infection on from one to another, as well as himself. And I say "and this is the guy who's going to get us out of this mess? We're stuck with what we've got, for good or ill, but that doesn't mean we should give them free rein. These are our representatives in Parliament and we employ them to govern us. They are, effectively, there to serve US.
And yes. Cummings has gone to ground. If he's ill and recovering, then where? I'd like to send him some flowers. But most of all I'd like to know where the PM's chief advisor is and what he's up to.

To be honest, my disgust and contempt for some of the goings in in the Home Office knows no bounds, but that's not the topic of discussion here, nor am I trying to make it such.

I am having a day off today for reflection, tommorow 31 years ago i signed on the dotted line and got married today we is having pre drinks i think they call it now, have a nice day and be good to each other athumb..
Congratulations for tomorrow. Haven't heard of pre-drinks. Hope it involves alcohol.

I think there are people on here and in the outside world who believe Matt Hancock writes and signs every requisition for anything needed in the NHS and it is countersigned by the PM. And between the two of them they then expedite those same orders, inspect and organise every last detail in delivery and distribution.
To think such a thing is of course ridiculous.
The government dictate policy.
There are thousands of procurement specialists in the NHS. Logic dictates that, given the enormous budget they have. They have a brief. They know what is needed in detail. Are these people thinking out the box to obtain what is necessary. Money certainly doesn't seem to be a problem at present. But anyone who has dealt with NHS procurement will tell you what a difficult organisation they are to deal with.
So whilst the government is not entirely without fault for some of the shortages, why aren't folks questioning the ability of the NHS itself to source what is needed. Or is it too uncomfortable to do that at the present time, given it falls under the heading of 'NHS bashing'.
I've always said the front line medical staff in the NHS are (mostly) first class, and the equipment they have seems that too, its the others who support them that often lets it down.

While I totally agree with you about the NHS procurement are probably the
main problem I believe the powers that be have a duty to intervene and bring in our armed forces logistics to help with the movement of equipment. From the very early press conferences we have told they have the equipment waiting to be delivered so why are we now in the middle of this crisis and still under protected or were they just talking b0llocks.

You know they've screwed up when even the Times and the Telegraph are criticising their decisions

Well in the BBC simulation a couple of years ago there was an appearance by a Doctor from the NHS Pandemic Planning team. So are we working to their plan or another plan? I don't know because I haven't heard from them since. In that programme they were certainly preparing for 50% of the UK to fall ill and their plan would be to flatten the curve. I think once this is all over and there is an enquiry then this should be something to look at. So yes I agree, the people on the front line are doing a great job but they may have been let down by people further up the food chain whether than be in that Planning Team or higher.

In that simulation, by the way, they were predicting 887k deaths so in that respect this is not the big one that they are planning for. Unfortunately, that program is no longer on iPlayer but there is a recent Horizon episode that references to it. with regards to the effects of washing of hands.

But would we? i don't believe anything politicians promise as they rarely do what they say they will. (and i am a labour voter as stated earlier)
Yes because there wouldn't have been years of cuts. Don't forget the Government have had years to fund the NHS properly and not cut cut cut. Also wasn't there a report saying if there was a pandemic we would be screwed which was ignored by the Government.

Which in the last 10 years was the NHS budget cut cut cut?

We've had this discussion on the thread. The conservative have in fact technically spent more year on year but this doesnt take into account things like aging population, increase in population, the NHS having to take on things that should really be done by social care, etc. So it is effect a cut

Ignored or prioritised spending on the NHS at the time, the labour party wouldn't have stockpiled billions of pounds of PPE if they had been in power and if you think they would have you are deluded.

The labour party may have done things differently but i fear the outcome wouldn't have been much different and as has been said in the thread countless times hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Why when someone again tries to analyse/criticise/offer a bit of evidence to suggest this multiple term government may have neglected us at some point which is being woke now, does the discussion come back to 'well, labour wouldn't have done any better'?

You are all probably correct. They wouldn't have done any better, Corbyn would have been too busy opening all the coal mines up or some other socialist commie stuff. But that does not excuse THIS government. It's not even historical, they have admitted themselves that during this pandemic that they have made mistakes. One mistake was being too laissez faire about how contagious it was which in part ended up with the PM in ICU as a result. I reckon Corbyn would have been hugging people too, and if he had and if that then happened to him he'd get the same criticism from me, but I would expect it would be much much worse than what Boris Johnson got.

Chippy
Where your facts to back up this statement. 😹

think a big problem come when the w.h.o. said that the elderly and vunerable were most at risk before it was actually a pandemic. it come across to many that the younger generation would be ok. then things started to pan out that no one is safe. hindsight ey?
BJ for one took it too lightly and look were it got him.
