Yeast Extract instead of Yeast Nutrients

Anyone used a Yeast extract instead of Yeast nutrients?

You can get low sodium yeast extract like this one.

Wondered if it can add the nutrients without the danger of the metallic nutrient taste?

It might be OK but what about using a yeast based purpose blended product like fermaid k? I used that and go-ferm for yeast rehydration on a 5 gal batch of mead earlier in the year and the fermentation went well.

I was planning to test marmite, but didn't get round to it. I agree, though, go with a product formulated specifically for brewer's yeast. They don't cost much, since they go quite a way.

poor yeast, the nitrogen is the yeasts main food source, so a weak yeast performance or a slow ferment.

think of it this way, we need as humans to have carbohydrates as well as proteins, nitrogen is the yeasts proteins and the vitamin b and sugar is the carbs side, you have to have both for it to really work very well
