hi i have 4 batches of Wurzel’s Orange on the go and just wondered if anyone had tried a sparkling version and how to go about it?

Sorry, I cheat - ferment out, stabilise, fine, filter, back-sweeten, force carbonate in a Corny, occasionally bottle some off for Mother-in-law, but mostly it's on draught.

Moley - I never got a chance to say ... everyone was bowled over by the WOW .. they couldn't believe it cost less than 50p a bottle! Needs to be drank very cold but its a real winner!

So .. big thanks to you and your instructions!

thankyou both for your prompt replys i was expecting a reply in days not minutes, well a corni it is then! been thinking of getting more they seem to breed when your not looking!!! can anyone recommend a supermarket juice (red) wine other than strawberry ribena,my airing cupboard is only half full need to stock up

Hmm wonder if I could force carbonate using my old sodastream? I some WOW that is in a 2L bottle and has been in the fridge for a week so should be about 3-4deg C. (Up top of a beer fridge) so may try a 1/4l in a bottle.

Yes you can. Just be careful opening the sodastream once you've gassed it, I did it with some TC once and covered the whole kitchen in foaming TC.

Most questions on here get answered within hours, some within minutes :thumb:

Sorry, no, you can make some decent rosés but not a full-bodied red.

Red grape juice and cranberry works quite well.

hi moley am i right in thinking if i make 5 gal of wow to your recipe and finish in a corni, i just times all the quanitys by 5??? what about the yeast etc :hmm:

Correct, 5 litres grape juice, 5 litres orange juice, 5 tsps pectolase, etc.
The only thing you don't scale up is the yeast, if using packets then one sachet is good for up to 5 gallons, and if using a yeast compound out of a tub, 2 heaped tsps is plenty.

PS: It's not my recipe, I just seem to have become the ambassador on this forum, although Wurzel does visit occasionally.

PPS: If you're working in sensible quantities like 5 gallons, here's my FPW (Fruity Pink Wurzel):

3 litres white grape juice
2 litres red grape juice
3 litres orange juice
2 litres cranberry juice drink
4kg sugar
5 tsps pectolase
25ml glycerine
2.5 tsps tannin or 5 ordinary tea bags
10 Twining's Raspberry, Strawberry & Loganberry fruity ‘tea bags’.
Yeast & nutrient

Tea bags get infused for 10 minutes in a litre of boiling water, twice.

thanks moley! got up early and got the juce from tescos, theres so many offers on in the juice isle, had to get a calculator !!!

I prefer Welch's Purple grape Juice for reds- it seems a little less 'thin' to me. Watch out if you buy the long-life, I've heard it has preservatives in it.

I think I'm right in saying that Welch's Purple is pressed from Concord grapes, which have a bit more ‘oomph’ than most dessert grapes but are towards the inferior end of the wine grape varieties.

Most supermarket juices are long-dated because they have been pasteurised and there's little or no air in the cartons. It always pays to read the ingredients labelling but the ones you've got to watch out for are the “juice drinks”.

thanks everyone ! got my first 5 gall batch of wow on the go now hoping to put it in a corny at the end
thanks moley for the recipe help (you left out the bit that says caution you are making a orange fiz bomb!!!!! lol
even with 5 inches of air space it pushed the bloody lid off! it was like krakatoa
i think its going to be a good one) :thumb:

Mate, it still catches even me out.....the 5gal batch I started last week behaved it's self for about 3 days and then erupted all over the heat tray and kitchen floor

We tried the cranberry juice drink with red grape juice and it was really nice and very potent but we did notice it didn't clear as well as the pure fruit juice.

We also tried red grape and prune which again was very drinkable.

Our favourite (after the hallowed Wurzels Original) is Red or was it Pink grapefruit juice and red grape (Tesco)

I have been having a bit read of the archives today and came across this which looks very interesting!

What sort of drink would you compare this too and does it turn out sparlking or still or does that all depend on adding sugar to the bottles?
