Why don't they have different shaped nozzles for diesel?

Correct! she said it was the garages fault as the unleaded nozzle was in the place where the diesel nozzle is at our local supermarket garage where she normally fills up! :wha:

She realised what she had done when it started chugging

I've recently got my first diesel car after owning petrol cars for my 13 years of driving. I'm paranoid about putting petrol in it, especially as the misses has a petrol and it's usually me that ends up filling them up in the petrol station!

A mistake is bound to happen, when not if is the question haha

I know diesel in a petrol is fine although a little smokey, but petrol in a diesel can be catastrophic.

It'd be great if it ever became widely available, hydrogen is dirt cheap! I could get a V8 again :)

Is it? :wha:

I'm pretty sure it's a really common naturally occurring element mate, but I'm **** at science so that's probably wrong...

Hydrogen is often touted as the cheapest source of fuel whenever there is a programme on telly about deep space travel.

In comparison to dragging fuel into orbit, manufacturing fuel in space IS cheaper... if they find liquid water.

Back on terra firma, hydrogen is expensive to make as it requires a lot of energy to split the water molecule. If it was easy and cheap Homebrewers would have been driving big cars everywhere.*

*if you do find a cheap way to do it, share it :D

I will, I'm a big petrolhead so I'm always looking to find ways to run awesome cars on the cheap. I've played with LPG in the past but it's just not that reliable, I had an '89 Rangie V8 running on LPG, I spent nearly a grand going to various specialists trying to get it running right on gas before I gave up and broke it for parts :?

Wife's just put £40 of petrol in her diesel car, AA charging £160 to drain out due to " driver error."

That's not quite what I said but in the same ballpark ;)

Why oh why don't they have different shaped nozzles for diesel and petrol?!?!

Probably to late now but,

Next time, get the AA to take the car to your local garage (for free), get the garage to drain it out into cans then fill the car right up to the brim again with diesel, this will dilute any petrol left in the tank.

The cost? about £30 plus you have a years supply of petrol in cans for the lawn mower/hedge trimmer etc etc

How do i know?

it happened to me a few weeks ago  and i wasnt paying the £180 the RAC wanted

Bum.......
oh well now I know for next time ;)

Its just another extortion racket preying on the vulnerable or unknowing

They tell you the contaminated fuel thats just cost £40 will be disposed of environmentally friendly!

What they mean is taken home and used in the lawn mower.

The Rac wanted £180 for the guy to come out and drain the tank. He was really annoyed when i said i just wanted towing to my local garage which they have to do under the breakdown contract free of charge.

The garage then drained the petrol out into some empty oil cans while i got a gallon of diesel, we started up the engine and allowed it to tick over for a minute then drove it to the forecourt and filled it to the brim.

The garage charged me £30 labour plus i got the petrol back and no harm done apart from having to payout £40 for petrol then another £70 for diesel on the same day.

At least i could then afford to celebrate with a couple pints of delicious cheap home brew beer :drink:
