I was in wilkies and picked up a pilsner kit and pressure barrel which I thought I could ferment in. I like the barrel, is there any chance I can ferment some lager in there?

You'd be better off fermenting in a bucket, then transferring to the barrel. Fermentation leaves behind a lot of gunk that you'd have a job cleaning out of the barrel.

Indeed but I don't have a bucket big enough. Would I need to mod the barrel to add an airlock? I can always jet wash the barrel after

In theory you could ferment in the PB however you'd be better off spending another few quid on a bucket then transferring to the PB. It's up to you but I'd be on my way back to Wilkos.

I think I'll drill through the Centre of the screw top and add a rubber bung and airlock. I'll get a new top and bucket at a later date I think

I secondary ferment in a barrel and then use a bottling wand directly on the tap. I drilled the centre out of the cap for an air lock, works great and secondary fermentation has improved my brews no end.
