I love Sunshine, can't explain why, I just do. Solaris is on my watchlist, and I was pleased to see you watched the original Stalker is well worth a watch if you haven't seen it yet.
duly added to the list of watch. thanks.I love Sunshine, can't explain why, I just do. Solaris is on my watchlist, and I was pleased to see you watched the original Stalker is well worth a watch if you haven't seen it yet.
I enjoyed it. Went to see Machete Kills at the cinema. Not the best films ever but they poke fun at other films which take themselves too seriously. Writing this has reminded me of the chuck Norris scene in expendables 2, which made a mediocre film shine in my opinion!Anybody made the mistake of watching ‘Machete’ starring Danny Trejo? Some big names on the cast (De Niro, Michelle Rodregiuz and some not so - Seagal and Lindsay Lohan) but what a load of tripe. Really poor knock-off of Kill Bill style fight scenes, dodgy 80’s style porno music (Im reliably informed...) for every gratuitous nude scene and the loosest plot going. It’s supposed to be a comedy, but its comedically bad!
I’ve watched some sh1te in my time but Machete really scrapes the bottom of the barrel. As you can probably guess, I wouldnt recommend!
I watched this last night off the back of recommendations on here.Has anyone watched a film called 'kajaki'?
Glad you liked it, it isn't easy to watch but it's harder not to watch once it gets going...I watched this last night off the back of recommendations on here.
Wow it’s pretty bloody intense.
Next up was The Fountain which wasn't bad. The visuals were beautiful and I found some of the themes interesting but it was just a little unsatisfying in the end. Great performance from Hugh Jackman though.
I think you're absolutely right, it came close to being a masterpiece but just fell tragically short towards the end. A shame really. This really hit a nerve for me. It's an off-the-scale beautiful film on a Terence Malik-style epic scale. For a while I put the fact that I didn't fully 'get it' down to my own stupidity, until I watched it again, carefully, and read up on it online to discover that it wasn't just me.... Ultimately it is really convoluted and confused, which is a massive shame. Had it ended with more clarity, bringing the storylines together in a coherent fashion, it could have been a masterpiece. I still love its ambition though, and there are some scenes that are unforgettable. I still recommend it to anyone that hasn't seen it.
I really liked this, although for a local boy very distracting that it's very obviously not filmed in Belfast‘71
If you’re after a heartwarming feel good film then best avoid this one.
It deals with war, fear, human nature and the personal conflict that results.
Wonder how people from Sheffield feel about itI really liked this, although for a local boy very distracting that it's very obviously not filmed in Belfast
Sam Rockwell is just one of those actors (for me at least) who I just love in any role. An awesome actor.A few more for me this week, firstly The Favourite which I rather enjoyed. A great looking movie with interesting and unusual cinematography, and brilliant performances all round, particularly Rachel Weisz. The same director as The Lobster which I would recommend much more.
Next was Galaxy Quest which is a bit silly but I still love it. And Sam Rockwell is brilliant as ever. Then I rewatched Under the Skin which is an unusual, but interesting and intriguing movie about an alien prowling the streets of Glasgow for victims. It's a great example of visual storytelling, although in an artistic, often abstract way that probably wouldn't appeal to everyone. The music is wonderfully creepy and atmospheric and combines with the lingering visuals to create an uneasy feel throughout. Plus naked Scarlett Johansson, so....
