The fact that any discussion on this is immediately shut down just exacerbates the whole thing.
The discussion that was shut down was about content being moved from the Snug to the Off-the Record forum this was done (As @Angie explained at the time) to take it out of the view of guests and search engine bots as it didn't make great reading and did the forum no favours.
(i really don't think we need to go round those circles again here)
Back to the title topic -
I understand that this is a business that has to make money, but presumably it is making money otherwise it wouldn't still be here, and maybe the disenfranchisement of the members, ie the ones who create the content and give the business its value, is a little unwarranted.
If you pay to support the site i think its only fair you have the opportunity to block adverts in your profile settings.
Here is the information about supporting membership taken from the page where you sign up as you can see the importance of the much needed funds is discussed and also as it says advertising is limited, when you visit some sites you struggle to read the content due to the amount of adverts they have on each page, i know people don't like adverts but i don't think ours are intrusive.
Here at The Homebrew Forum we strive to provide a friendly and technical oriented community with limited advertising that works towards our hobby and passion. The The Homebrew Forum Supporting Membership program provides the much needed funds to cover all the expenses it takes to keep this great website running.
